What is a quality control plastic?

A Quality Control Plastic job involves inspecting plastic materials and products to ensure they meet quality and industry standards. Workers in this role test products for defects, measure dimensions, and check for consistency in production. They may also document findings, report issues to supervisors, and help improve manufacturing processes. This role is essential in maintaining product quality and reducing waste in plastic production.

What are the typical responsibilities of a quality control plastic professional on a daily basis?

A Quality Control Plastic professional typically conducts inspections of raw materials and finished plastic products, ensures adherence to quality standards, and documents any non-conformities. Their day often involves working closely with production teams to detect and resolve defects, calibrate and operate testing equipment, and maintain detailed records of inspections and test results. They may also participate in continuous improvement initiatives and help train colleagues on quality procedures. By maintaining strict quality control, they play a crucial role in preventing defects from reaching customers and ensuring the company's products meet regulatory and client specifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the quality control plastic position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality Control Plastic, you need a strong background in materials science, familiarity with plastic manufacturing processes, and attention to detail, often supported by a degree in engineering or a related field. Experience with inspection tools, quality management systems (QMS), and certifications such as ISO 9001 are commonly expected. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team help professionals excel in this role. These skills ensure consistent product quality, efficient issue resolution, and compliance with industry standards.

The team specializes in tight-tolerance, complex plastic components and assemblies that meet demanding quality and regulatory standards. Work is fast-paced and project-driven, with close collaboration between fabrication, engineering, and quality teams. Applicants can expect exposure to advanced fabrication techniques, modern equipment, and diverse customer requirements across multiple high-tech sectors.

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Plastic Fabricator who can work as an independent operator, taking a job from drawing to finished part with minimal supervision. This person will lead high-precision fabrication work, bring strong plastic bending and welding skills, hold our parts to strict tolerance and finish standards, and mentor junior fabricators on the shop floor.

Job Duties:

•  Read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders

•  Cut, shape, heat, bend, and bond plastics using saws, routers, strip heaters, or ovens

•  Perform specialized plastic welding such as hot-air, extrusion, or solvent bonding

•  Produce high-precision parts and assemblies to medical device and semiconductor tolerances

•  Inspect and QC your own parts using precision measurement tools like calipers and micrometers to confirm they meet spec before they leave your station

•  Sand, buff, polish, and finish surfaces to meet strict client standards

•  Train, mentor, and oversee junior fabricators in daily shop tasks

•  Strong knowledge of plastic types and material reactions to heat and chemicals

•  Proficiency with power tools, hand tools, and shop machinery

•  Ability to read blueprints and use advanced shop math
