Compass Oncology- the largest privately owned cancer care and research network in the Pacific Northwest- is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight across multiple laboratory sites.
This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient laboratory operations while supporting clinical excellence and patient care.
We are looking for a strong leader with a commitment to quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement- someone who brings both technical expertise and a passion for supporting teams and delivering exceptional patient care.
Employment Type: Full-Time, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, M-F
Location: Vancouver Cancer Center (Vancouver, WA) OR East Cancer Clinic (Clackamas, OR)
Salary Range: $118,440.01 - $193,810.92 salaried
**Final offer amounts are determined by a review of the candidate's applicable experience and qualifications, as well as, internal employee equity considerations.
Scope:
Provides technical supervision for multiple laboratories (four or more) and is accountable for the overall direction, coordination, and organization of laboratory operations. Advises executive leadership, including the Executive Director and Senior Vice President, on clinical needs, operational issues, and laboratory policies. Recommends organizational objectives to support high-quality patient testing and efficient lab performance.
Maintains responsibility for laboratory operations, including financial oversight and analysis to support cost efficiency and profitability. Provides direct and indirect supervision to laboratory staff and supervisors as needed. Ensures adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
  • Oversees clinical operations for all assigned laboratories, including all aspects of laboratory testing, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Proficiency Testing. Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for QC, QA, and PT, and oversees the evaluation, selection, validation, and ongoing review of test methods.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, including CLIA, COLA, OSHA, HIPAA requirements as well as applicable labor laws.
  • Supervises laboratory staff and directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of annual performance goals and departmental objectives to ensure operational efficiency, quality outcomes, and financial sustainability. Assists employees and supervisors with performance improvement through coaching, feedback, and referral to counseling when appropriate.
  • Oversees staffing levels, scheduling, and coverage, and steps in to support laboratory operations during staffing shortages when necessary.
  • Evaluates qualifications of prospective laboratory personnel; interviews and hires as needed. Ensures all staff meet regulatory requirements for testing, oversees or assigns training, and provides continuing education opportunities while monitoring participation and competency.
  • Assists in the development, preparation, and implementation of laboratory budgets. Performs cost analyses for major equipment purchases and evaluates vendor bids for financial feasibility, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Serves as liaison between vendors and corporate purchasing to support contract negotiations and network-wide pricing.
  • Ensures accurate billing for services and educates laboratory staff on proper documentation to support reimbursement and compliance with billing guidelines. Works closely with revenue cycle team to ensure appropriate reimbursement.
  • Serves as liaison with reference laboratories and vendor customer service representatives to ensure optimal service quality, responsiveness, and cost-effective pricing for all practice laboratories including transfusion services and pathology testing.
  • Manages and coordinates laboratory technology interfaces across multiple systems, ensuring accurate data flow, system integration, troubleshooting, and alignment with clinical, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science field.
  • Minimum seven years experience in laboratory testing, including at least five years in a supervisory capacity.
  • ASCP or equivalent certification required.
  • Current state licensure.
