Job description

Overview
Established in 1997 as a Dowa Japan business unit, Dowa THT America, Inc., provides the customer a state of the art heat treatment environment, with fully automated carburizing and nitriding furnaces. Dowa's treated automotive parts are tested daily in our quality laboratory to ensure specified hardness requirements and the guarantee of consistent results.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Quality Supervisor, the Quality Lab Technician is responsible for performing:
  • material analysis using Met Lab equipment
  • all metallurgical sample preparation steps, including sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing
  • Rockwell Hardness measurements, using various scales and cylindrical corrections, when applicable
  • microhardness measurements using automatic microhardness testers
  • assisting with cross sectional microstructure analysis, using optical microscopes
  • assisting with heat treat quality evaluations per part drawing requirements
  • assisting with periodic maintenance of the QC lab equipment
  • specification sign off per customer requirements
  • providing quality inspections and audits on the plant floor
  • assisting with Corrective Action and "hold" batches

Sunday through Thursday 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm. Training will be on first shift for approximately 5 months: Mon-Fri 7 am to 3:30 pm.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
  • A high school education or equivalent.
  • Basic math comprehension skills.
  • Experience working in a quality lab is not required; however, a genuine motivation and eagerness to learn is.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • An analytical approach to problem solving.

Dowa offers a competitive compensation range; $22.32 to $26.00, depending upon experience, with a $1.25 shift premium for hours from 5 pm to 5 am. , as well as an an outstanding benefits package with a zero deductible health care plan, dental, vision, life insurance, accident coverage, identity theft, short and long term disability, 401(k), and 2 weeks PTO in the first year, all for $78/month for the employee and family coverage at an additional cost.
