Job description

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Quality Control Technician to join our NuSil Irving, TX team! The Quality Control Technician supports day-to-day manufacturing processes by independently doing hands-on lab duties, including pre-established material qualifications. In specific, running prescribed tests and inspections for releasing materials to the next step in the process.

This is a 1st (first) shift role with the working hours of Monday-Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm CST.

What we're looking for

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED is required

  • Experience: 1 year of laboratory or equivalent experience and training preferred

    • Experience handling chemicals safely

    • Experience with basic physical chemistry parameters (pH, pressure, temperature)

    • Basic experience using calibrated instruments

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in a good laboratory practices environment

How you will thrive and create an impact

  • Under supervision performs basic routine testing. This may include appearance, viscosity, pH, loss on drying, uncured, uncured/mixed, cured, and post cured routine testing.

  • Under supervision performs routine testing. This may include acid/base titrations, tensile testing, heat/moisture curing, intermediates, final product, and shelf-life reinspection's.

  • Updates team on current testing status and instrument readiness during the shift change.

  • Supports laboratory inventory upkeep, ensuring supplies are properly stocked, labeled, and accessible.

  • Prepare samples for outside testing by following specified procedures.

  • Handles samples from submittal to disposal.

  • Handles Test Request samples.

  • Perform sample preparation for the testing of samples following approved test method procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards and industry regulations to maintain quality within the scope of the job description. This includes documentation and reporting.

  • Follows applicable safety procedures.

  • Performs routine cleaning and housekeeping duties ensuring instruments and workstations are clean and properly maintained.

  • Assist with Hazardous Waste disposal, including discarding expired supplies as per SOPs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to the following occasional duties:

  • Support quality systems activities including calibration scheduling, documentation scanning/filing, testing document review, and calibration report/certificate review to ensure compliance and audit readiness.

  • May perform standardized Test Methods for validation purposes.

  • Under supervision, may investigate unexpected testing results at the QC Lab level.

  • May login and dispose of retain samples. Keeps the retain sample area clean and organized.

  • May perform daily calibration verifications of testing instruments. This may include GC, GPC, Instron, scales/balances.

  • May provide support with routine testing of materials related to defects, customer complaints, and opportunity analysis projects.

  • May provide support with execution under supervision of non-routine testing of materials related to defects, customer complaints, and opportunity analysis projects.

  • May work closely with other functional teams and provide Quality technical SME feedback for internal challenges (Ex. Production or development issues).

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE JOB COMPETENTLY:

  • Basic Computer Skills (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Basic Math and basic statistics knowledge.

  • Strong communication and time-management skills. Detail-oriented and a collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in group settings.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures. Able to work under close supervision by following clear instructions.

  • Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)

Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range oftemperature and noise level. At times, may be exposed to a variety of different chemicals including flammables, corrosives, oxidizers and others.

Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.

A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.

Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
