Job description

Job Title: Intern/Aide - Part-time
Division: Pediatrics
Work Arrangement:
Location: Houston, TX
Salary Range: $10.85 - $14.43 hourly rate
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Work Schedule: Flexible
Summary
The Intern/Aide will support the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center's Epidemiology and Population Science Program, which focuses on studying risk factors and outcomes related to childhood cancer and hematological diseases. Through this program, interns will learn to use epidemiological research methods and apply these methods to investigate research questions related to childhood cancer and hematology. Interns will gain knowledge in epidemiological research methods through review of scientific literature, performing QC of study data, analyze research data, and performing data entry. This is part-time position, 20 hours/week.
Job Purpose
Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.
Job Duties
  • Gains knowledge in epidemiological research methods through review of scientific literature.
  • Performs quality control (QC) checks on study data/
  • Analyzes research data.
  • Performs data entry.
  • Learns to use epidemiological research methods.
  • Acquires fundamental skills in data analysis and quality control.
  • Acquires skills in scientific literature review.
  • Participates in groups meetings with program faculty as well as have 1:1 meetings with their specific faculty mentor to ensure they meet their internship objectives.
  • Helps the lab with sample inventory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in pursuing a career in medical or epidemiological research.
  • Currently pursuing or planning to pursue an undergraduate degree in a science-related field.
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of research methods, data handling, or scientific literature is beneficial.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment.
