Job description

Some of what you will do:

Performs cleaning and building maintenance duties both inside/outside of the facility (covering mechanical, electrical & other technical areas) and work with conveyor system. Work is performed under the direction of maintenance Manager.

Specifically, You Will:

Janitorial

  • Uses proper equipment, procedures and cleaning supplies when performing cleaning duties. 
  • Collecting & Trashing corrugates in compactor, staging empty pallets for pallet pickups.
  • Operate Bales and compactors.

Maintenance Support

  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate test device on a conveyor system, shrink-wrap machines, case erectors, case sealers and dock levelers in all aspects. Make determination when vendor support is needed to facilitate repair ie: HVAC hot/cold calls.
  • Perform general maintenance on the conveyor system, shrink-wrap machines, case erectors, case sealers, and dock levelers. Some examples are repair of security doors, alarm test and resets, compressor checks, emergency generator etc.
  • Follow up on outside contractor work by review, inspection and sign-off of completed work orders. Escalate as necessary.
  • Oversee day-to-day Day Porter activities including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing of daily work tasks.
  • Travel between Staples sites as required depending on business needs.
  • Operate, test, and maintain Sorting systems.

 

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Removes snow from walkway and steps. 
  • Keeps sand and salt on walks and steps during icy/slippery conditions. 
  • May be asked to execute repair and preventive maintenance of facility equipment. 
  • Maintains the facility grounds in such a way to reflect an attractive public appearance. 
  • May perform light electrical and/or plumbing maintenance and troubleshooting. 

Health and Safety

  • Testing of fire and emergency back-up systems.
  • Active member of emergency response team.

Some of what you need:

  • Able to travel between Laval warehouse (QC) and Boucherville warehouse (QC)
  • Driver License + car
  • Bilingual (French / English)
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • MHE certification is an asset.
  • Familiar with fire suppression systems and backup generators an asset Able to operate a variety of cleaning machines (floor sweepers, polisher, vacuums, dusters). 
  • Knowledge of proper safety precautions when working with electricity and machines. 
  • Work requires continual walking, standing, and lifting to carry out everyday activities.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 40 feet.
  • Good physical coordination and manual dexterity is required to climb ladders, and to use tools to conduct on-site repairs of equipment.
  • Physical effort is required to use the computer to access and record information.
  • Willing to learn TMS continuously.
  • Assists with office equipment moves and meeting set-ups as needed or requested. 
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of proper building practices. 
  • Minimum of three (3) months related experience required.
