Quality Control Technician

The Opportunity

Manthei Construction is a premier heavy construction and site development company with locations in Charlevoix amp; Traverse City, MI, as well as East Troy, WI. For over 50 years, Manthei Construction has been instrumental in the development of communities and their infrastructure all throughout Northern Michigan. And even after five decades, we feel like we're just getting started.
HIGH FORMAT, a division of Manthei Construction, is looking for a Quality Control Technician to play a key role in ensuring our products consistently meet company and customer quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and have an advanced level of attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform quality control testing on fresh and hardened concrete, aggregates, and raw materials
Conduct slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, moisture, and compressive strength tests
Inspect concrete products for dimensional accuracy, color consistency, and defects
Maintain accurate test records and quality documentation
Monitor production processes to ensure consistency and compliance with specifications
Communicate quality concerns, test results, and process deviations promptly and effectively with production personnel, supervisors, and management, while recommending corrective and preventive actions to resolve quality issues
Assist in verifying, evaluating, and optimizing concrete mix designs by reviewing test data, conducting trial batches, and recommending adjustments that improve workability, durability, appearance, and production efficiency
Calibrate and maintain testing equipment and laboratory tools
Collaborate with production, research and development, and sales teams to ensure products consistently meet customer requirements, resolve technical concerns, support product development initiatives, and enhance overall customer satisfaction
Assist in procuring and testing different raw materials in mixes to improve durability
Prioritize and maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory by properly storing materials, maintaining equipment, disposing of waste appropriately, and ensuring all work areas remain inspection-ready
Perform other duties as needed
Licenses or Certifications
ACI Concrete Field Testing certification preferred

ACI Concrete Strength Testing certification preferred

ACI Aggregate Level 1 amp; 2 certifications desired​

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience in a construction-related field, performing testing on concrete and associated materials required
Company-provided training and/or education available

Work Environment
Primarily conducted in an indoor laboratory
Steel-toe boots are required (PPE reimbursements available)
Company-provided PPE (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, particulate masks) as required for certain work tasks
Some travel required
This is a full-time, year-round position typically working Monday-Friday.
