Position Summary: The Quality Technician II assists the Quality Engineers as an analytical interface between Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality on design for manufacture and production issues and establishes and documents critical features. This position works with various internal teams as well as external customers to complete collaborative goals. The Quality Technician II also interfaces with military and defense customers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • On occasion take lead role as interface on customer issues emanating from company sales channels including commercial, law enforcement and military, and international and customer support for assigned contracts.
  • Analyze failures and assist in development of corrective and preventive actions to respond to customer complaints in a timely manner.
  • Participate in creating and updating quality assurance inspection instructions and data sheets and assist in measurement activities.
  • Assist Quality Management and Quality Engineers in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system.
  • Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure New Product Introductions are in accordance with approved data and testing, including appropriate records.
  • Assist in maintaining product line specific quality records and submit to customers as required by contract.
  • Conduct measurements using basic inspection tools and perform functional and visual inspections of SIG SAUER products.
  • Use analytical thinking and work closely with Inspectors and Engineers for data collection and analysis, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis, always maintaining appropriate levels of workplace organization and safety.
  • Assist in facilitating and performing acceptance testing, documenting all actions per contract specifications. Assists as a back-up subject matter expert during all customer acceptances.
  • Work with Supplier Quality Engineers, Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and key suppliers to understand, analyze, and improve measurement systems and process capability for assigned governmental contracts.
  • Support Quality Technician III’s with training others.
  • Participate in engineering root cause and troubleshooting processes and PPI projects.
  • Engage in and actively volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects and tasks.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferably an associates ort bachelor’s degree in a technical field, and 2+ years of experience in one or more quality or inspection fields.
  • Has a PPI Certification.
  • Familiar with drawing and print reading, basic Quality concepts, and mechanical design document interpretation.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required, and at least a basic working familiarity with fundamental data analysis techniques and Oracle EBS.
  • Should have fundamental technical and mechanical aptitude with basic optical, electrical, and mechanical test instruments and techniques, as well as strong aptitude with hand tools and small power tools.
  • Knowledge of US Government Military Standards and practices (e.g., FARs, DFARs) related to quality planning and first article and conformance inspections.
  • Travel to locations as needed. May travel with a Government Representative. Will travel without supervision and may be required to travel with a Level I Technician.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, suppliers, management, and fellow employees.
  • Able to complete most tasks ahead of time with the ability to perform a minimum of two (2) tasks at one time.

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
