Job description

Overview:

The Quality Inspector (EI&C) will report to the site Quality Manager or Sr Quality Manager, EI&C as applicable, and indirectly to the Corporate Quality Manager, and will be responsible for conducting and documenting inspections in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). Quality Inspectors will ensure all reports are being documented accurately, legibly, and traceable to their locations in the field with minimal error in reporting.  Quality Inspectors will be required to effectively communicate and develop positive working relationships with the owner, owner’s representative, and the Company’s site supervision, in order to facilitate the quality objectives.

TRAVEL:

Travel required up to 100%.  Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location. The first project is in Lubbock, Texas.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Familiarity with a broad range of general construction processes and nomenclature including testing laboratory protocols and procedures
  • Familiarity with evaluation of materials for submittal, suitability for area classifications and use.
  • Review of subcontractor submittals, quality manuals, ITP’s and other quality documents.
  • Methodical and detail-oriented to assist the project team in assuring that Project QC documentation is complete and procedures are followed to ensure issues are closed and project risk is mitigated.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications including identification of errors, contradictions or redundancies for resolution by others.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled QA/QC meetings, review logs of Deficiencies, Punch List, and other items required and maintain documentation and meeting minutes within job folder
  • Prepare reports on inspection activities
  • Scheduling of inspection activities in conjunction with various local, state, governmental agencies and 3rd party testing. 
  • Understand and be able to identify difference between Project Specifications and Standard Codes and when project specific requirements do not meet minimum codes, administer appropriate expectations of codes as necessary to protect MasTec Industrial interests.
  • Consult with Project Management when encounter issues or concerns beyond level of expertise.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a QA/QC role. Education towards an engineering or technical degree may be substituted in lieu of required work experience.
  • Must have extensive working knowledge and be able to proficiently navigate and interpret the codes and standards, specifically demonstrating full working knowledge and understanding of NEC, ICC, and NETA requirements
  • Must hold a state-level journeyman license or master electrician license or demonstrate proof of previously holding electrical licenses, unless substituting engineering or technical degrees
  • Preferred certifications from ICC, NICET, NFPA, and NETA
  • Minimum of 7 years required in an industrial or oil and gas construction environment.
  • Training and practical knowledge of all construction trades
  • Prior proven experience leading projects and teams in an Industrial setting
  • Extreme proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams, and Power Point
  • Demonstrated experience with construction management software platforms
  • Proven capabilities with Bluebeam Revu
  • Preferred experience with Smartsheet and InEight software

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence and document quality related issues and activities
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, customers and the general public
  • Effectively communicate and develop positive working relationships with the owner, owner’s representative, and the Company’s site supervision, in order to facilitate the quality objectives
  • Work independently and productively, ensuring the resources assigned to the project are adequate and properly trained for the task
  • Be self-motivated and capable of taking initiative
  • Apply critical thinking skills to establish effective corrective actions for causal factors of quality incidents
  • Possess diplomatic skills for addressing Quality and Safety issues with both internal and external parties
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
