Job description

SUMMARY

Mortenson is looking for a Senior Market Insights Researcher who will be responsible for developing and delivering clear, executive-level insights on market, economic, and competitive dynamics. This role helps the organization understand what is evolving in the market, what it means, and how to respond.

RESPONSIBILITIESExecutive Market Insights and Reporting
  • Develop and deliver insights on end-market sector and geographic market trends, economic conditions, and industry outlooks, incorporating both quantitative data and qualitative research
  • Produce recurring and ad hoc reports for senior leadership, including quarterly market updates and sector outlooks
  • Synthesize market, economic, and competitive information into clear business implications
  • Prepare executive-level presentation slides and written summaries for leadership discussions and decision-making
Market Assessments and Strategic Support
  • Lead market assessments across end-market sectors and geographies to support business planning and growth strategy
  • Serve as the primary insights lead for select sectors or geographies, maintaining a clear view of demand drivers, competitive dynamics, and market outlook
  • Translate findings into implications for market positioning, strategic priorities, and pursuit strategies
Competitive Intelligence and Benchmarking
  • Analyze competitor performance, strategy, and positioning across priority sectors and geographies
  • Develop competitor profiles and maintain a consistent approach to benchmarking
  • Identify changes in competitive dynamics and assess implications for the business, including competitive positioning and differentiation
Analytical Approach & Insight Development
  • Plan and execute analysis for complex business questions
  • Integrate inputs from multiple internal and external sources into a clear view of market dynamics
  • Develop consistent approaches and standard deliverables for market assessments and analysis
  • Manage multiple workstreams and deliver high-quality work on tight timelines
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Master’s in Business Administration preferred, but not required
  • Minimum five years of related experience in market intelligence, consulting, strategy, or economic analysis
  • Experience in construction, real estate, or adjacent industries preferred, but not required
  • Experience conducting end-market sector, geographic, competitor, and economic research, including trends analysis and market assessments
  • Experience working with primary research methods such as expert interviews, focus groups, and surveys including coordination with third-party providers and incorporating findings into insights
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex market, economic, and competitive topics and draw clear, well-supported conclusions
  • Strong narrative and storytelling capability, with the ability to communicate insights clearly and concisely to executive audiences
  • Experience sourcing, integrating, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative macroeconomic and industry data from external sources to form a clear view of market dynamics (e.g., industry news and reports, subscription research platforms, government data sources)
  • Experience using AI tools to support research, analyze information, and develop insights
  • Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools
  • Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to present insights through written narratives and supporting visuals
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work on deadline
  • Strong business acumen, curiosity, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%

The base pay range for this role is Min $92,300 - $138,500. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
