JOB SUMMARY

Commodity Fumigator is a senior-level role in pest control and logistics, responsible for overseeing fumigation operations for agricultural, food processing, or export commodities. This position ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards while coordinating with multiple departments. Commodity Fumigator manages the safe and efficient fumigation of commodities such as grains, fruits, or other perishable goods, often in silos, warehouses, or export facilities. The role blends logistics, safety compliance, and technical fumigation expertise to protect products from pests while meeting food safety and export requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


•Supervise fumigation schedules, coordinate with all depts and ensure proper fumigant use based on requirements

•Ensuring proper sealing and containment of fumigants to maximize effectiveness.

•Inspecting facilities and commodities for pest infestations before and after treatment.

•Maintaining detailed records of fumigation activities and compliance with safety regulations.

•Operating specialized equipment and monitoring environmental conditions during treatments

•Communicating supply needs back to management to allow for timely ordering.

•Interaction with Sanitation / Pest Control Supervisor, FSQA Manager, Operators, Co-workers.

•Clean and remove pesticides after application as well as cleaning the worksite after completion of job.

•Follows and ensures adherence to established Grower Direct Nut Co., local, state, and federal regulations and requirements as well as food safety, sanitation, food production and nutritional guidelines.

•Established and ensures adherence to procedures and standards, which are in agreement with these regulations, requirements and guidelines.


Additional functions if applicable (review below)

•Handle the proper application of crop protection products.

•Monitor pest activity in all GDN facilities.

•Operate all fumigation equipment

•Maintain all fumigation equipment calibrated and ready for use on a daily basis

•Mix, load, and apply pesticides/fertilizers

•Perform daily vehicle inspections

•Handle packaged chemicals

•Clean and maintain equipment.

•Maintain application/spray records.

•Operation of application equipment – training provided.

•Operate forklift occasionally




Requirements:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Will frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, taste and smell.
  • Travel between the two Facilities.
  • Will occasionally sit and occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
  • Must use both hands for rapid mental muscular coordination, simultaneously.
  • Must be able to reach high and low levels, frequently.
  • Must be able to push/pull/lift with arms below waist/at shoulder/above shoulder level up to 35 pounds frequently.
  • Must lift with arms up to floor to waist, waist to shoulder 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to constantly stand/stoop/walk/bend, up to 12 hrs.
  • Ability to strenuously flex/grip with wrist/hands frequently (15 flexion/minute).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May work near moving mechanical parts.
  • May work around wet or humid conditions, in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and/or risk of vibration.


QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS


1.Pest Control-QAL/QAC Certification required

2.Ability to work as part of a team.

3.Excellent communication skills.

4.Ability to perform basic math functions.

5.Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed.

6.Have a valid CA driver license without restrictions.

7.Chemical application education preferred.

8.Previous application experience preferred.
