What is QA manual testing?

QA Manual Testing is the process of manually checking software for defects or issues before it is released to users. Testers perform test cases without using automation tools to ensure that the application functions as intended. This type of testing helps identify bugs, usability problems, and discrepancies between requirements and actual implementation. Manual QA testers play a vital role in maintaining software quality by simulating real user scenarios. Their feedback is essential for improving the overall user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a QA manual tester?

To thrive as a QA Manual Tester, you need a solid understanding of software development lifecycles, test case creation, and defect reporting, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with bug tracking tools like JIRA, test management systems such as TestRail, and knowledge of SQL for data validation are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and clear communication skills help testers effectively identify issues and collaborate with development teams. These competencies are crucial to ensure software quality, minimize defects, and deliver reliable products to end users.

What are some common challenges faced by QA manual testers when working on agile development teams?

QA Manual Testers in agile environments often face the challenge of keeping up with rapid development cycles, which require quick adaptation to changing requirements and priorities. Testers must communicate closely with developers and product owners to clarify features and ensure comprehensive test coverage within short sprints. Balancing thorough manual testing with tight deadlines can be demanding, but strong collaboration and proactive involvement in sprint planning help ensure quality deliverables. Additionally, testers may need to quickly learn new tools or adapt their documentation processes to fit agile workflows.

  • Assist with quality and operational reporting, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate testing status, release readiness, risks, issues, and dependencies to appropriate technical and program stakeholders.
  • Participate in Agile delivery activities and collaborate across teams to support timely, high-quality platform releases

What We're Looking For:

  • 3-5 years of experience in quality assurance, software testing, platform operations, release management, or a related IT discipline.
  • Experience working with ServiceNow and enterprise platform environments.
  • Strong knowledge of test planning, test execution, defect management, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
  • Experience supporting functional, regression, integration, and/or user acceptance testing.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working within Agile software delivery teams.
  • Experience coordinating software or platform releases, including release readiness, deployment validation, change tracking, and supporting documentation.
  • Strong documentation skills with the ability to develop and maintain test cases, test plans, release documentation, and operational artifacts.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain client-required access as needed.

Nice to Have:

  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification.
  • Additional hands-on experience working with the ServiceNow platform.
  • Experience implementing or working with ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF).
  • Knowledge of ITIL practices, Change Management, and Release Management.
