Python Data Analyst information

What does a Python data analyst do?

A Python Data Analyst leverages the Python programming language to collect, process, and analyze large sets of data. They use tools and libraries like Pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib to clean data, perform statistical analysis, and create visualizations that help organizations make data-driven decisions. Their role often involves extracting insights from complex datasets, automating data workflows, and communicating findings to stakeholders through reports or dashboards. Python Data Analysts play a crucial part in turning raw data into actionable business intelligence.

What does a Python data analyst do?

As a Python data analyst, you use the Python programming language to develop tools for data mining, analysis, and data visualization. You typically develop a script to meet the specific data needs of your client or employer. Then, you test your code and perform debugging duties before deploying it in a live environment. Some data analysts also have algorithm creation responsibilities. In this case, after creating and testing an algorithm, you use Python with your algorithm to interpret data. You also develop reports to show to your clients or employers, and you may code a web app or interface that clients can use to visualize data sets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Python data analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Python Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, a solid grasp of statistics, and proficiency in Python programming, often supported by a degree in data science, mathematics, or a related field. Familiarity with data analysis libraries like pandas and NumPy, visualization tools such as Matplotlib or Seaborn, and experience with data querying languages like SQL are typically required. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and effective communication help you derive insights and present findings clearly to stakeholders. These skills and qualities are vital for transforming raw data into actionable business intelligence and supporting data-driven decision-making.

How do Python data analysts typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Python Data Analysts often work closely with teams such as marketing, finance, and product development to provide data-driven insights that inform business decisions. They regularly participate in cross-functional meetings to understand departmental objectives, gather requirements for data analysis, and present their findings in an accessible manner. Effective communication and the ability to translate technical results into actionable recommendations are essential, as analysts often act as a bridge between technical data and non-technical stakeholders.

What is the difference between Python Data Analyst vs Data Scientist?

AspectPython Data AnalystData Scientist
Required SkillsPython, SQL, data visualization, statistical analysisPython, R, machine learning, statistical modeling
Work EnvironmentBusiness analytics, reporting, data cleaningAdvanced modeling, predictive analytics, research
Industry UsageFinance, marketing, healthcare, retailTech, finance, research, AI development

While both roles require Python and data analysis skills, Data Scientists typically engage in more complex modeling and machine learning, whereas Python Data Analysts focus on data cleaning, visualization, and reporting to support business decisions.

Is Python good for data analysts?

Python is widely used by data analysts due to its simplicity, extensive libraries like pandas and NumPy, and strong community support. It enables efficient data manipulation, analysis, and visualization, making it a valuable skill for the role.

Job description

Merge is the leading provider of agentic tools and customer-facing integrations for frontier LLMs, Fortune 500 organizations, and B2B SaaS companies. Our platform offers three core products: Merge Unified, which enables businesses to add hundreds of integrations to their products with a single API, Merge Agent Handler, which empowers AI agents with secure access to thousands of third-party tools, and Merge Gateway, the control plane for running AI in production. Merge's enterprise-grade platform handles the entire integration lifecycle, from authentication and security to monitoring and maintenance. Thousands of companies trust Merge to accelerate product development, unblock sales, reduce customer churn, and save engineering resources—allowing them to focus on their core product.

Who are we looking for?

We're a high-growth Series B company selling into a fast-moving AI and developer ecosystem where the market changes weekly and a finding that's interesting today is table stakes in a month. We move quickly, we work hard, and we care a great deal about being right.

We're hiring a Data Analyst to find the insights that drive our growth. You'll work directly with leadership on product and market strategy, shape how we make decisions as an engineering team, and influence how Merge presents itself to the world. If you want to dig into data no one has looked at, find the thing worth saying, and have your analysis be the reason we went left instead of right, this is the role.

What will you be doing?
  • Dig into our product, customer, and market data to find patterns worth acting on and raise questions before anyone else discovers them.

  • Work with engineering and design to build dashboards and frontend analytics that give customers a reliable view of what's happening in the product.

  • Partner with product marketing and sales to turn findings into campaigns, launch assets, and the numbers behind the pitch + the methodology to back them up.

  • Field requests from across the business and decide what warrants a deep dive, a quick pass or a later response.

  • Analyze product usage data (onboarding funnels, feature adoption, dashboard engagement) to identify opportunities to improve the customer journey.

  • Turn one-off analyses into repeatable internal tools and self-service resources so the next request is faster than the last.

What experience is required?
  • Degree in data science, computer science, statistics, or a similar quantitative field.

  • 2+ years in analytics, data science, insights, or a technical GTM / BizOps role.

  • Strong SQL. You write clean, structured queries on large datasets, and whether you wrote them yourself or an AI assistant did, you own the correctness of every result before it reaches a stakeholder.

  • Working knowledge of dbt. You'll use and extend existing models without needing to own a full warehouse build.

  • Working Python for analysis and automation, including AI-enabled workflows that reduce manual reporting overhead.

  • Writing that carries a finding. You can take an analysis and produce something a marketer, a seller, or a customer reads once and understands.

Nice to have
  • Experience at a B2B SaaS or developer tools company, or anywhere with a real data asset

  • Background working closely with product, marketing, sales, and/or revenue operations
  • Hands-on experience with product analytics tools like PostHog, Mixpanel, or Amplitude.
  • Familiarity with LLM and AI infrastructure data, or a genuine interest in learning it fast
Compensation
  • The cash compensation range for this role is $150,000-170,000

  • Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications. In addition to cash compensation, all employees receive an equity compensation package.
