Position Summary

The Senior Buyer & Inventory Analyst is responsible for procurement, inventory analysis, and supplier management to ensure materials are available while optimizing inventory levels and controlling costs. This role analyzes inventory trends, purchasing data, and demand forecasts to support informed decision-making, while maintaining accurate ERP data and working closely with production, warehouse, engineering, and finance to improve inventory accuracy and supply chain performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Vendor Management
    • Source and purchase materials, products, and services.
    • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
    • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and lead times.
    • Monitor market trends to support cost-effective purchasing and supplier decisions.
  • Inventory Management & Analysis
    • Monitor inventory levels to support production while minimizing excess stock.
    • Analyze inventory usage, demand forecasts, and stock trends.
    • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and variances.
    • Conduct cycle counts and work with production to align inventory with operational needs.
  • Database & ERP Data Management
    • Clean and maintain ERP/MRP system data to ensure accurate inventory and purchasing records.
    • Review and correct item master data, supplier information, pricing, lead times, and inventory records.
    • Standardize inventory and procurement data to improve consistency and reporting.
    • Recommend process improvements to enhance data accuracy and inventory control.
  • Manufacturing & Operational Support
    • Coordinate material availability to support production schedules and customer delivery timelines.
    • Work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and warehouse teams.
    • Manage MRP/ERP planning parameters including reorder points, safety stock, and lead times.
    • Assist with production planning and capacity-related material forecasting.
    • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement
    • Generate purchasing, inventory, and supplier performance reports.
    • Track KPIs including:
      • Inventory accuracy
      • Inventory turns
      • Supplier on-time delivery
      • Purchase price variance
      • Stockout frequency
      • Cost savings initiatives
    • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement projects.
    • Recommend process improvements to improve efficiency and reduce waste.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or inventory analysis.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing supply chains and production processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems. SYSPRO experience would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, retail, distribution, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of demand forecasting and inventory optimization tools.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma environments.
