About This Position

The Assistant Food Service Director works with the Food Service Director to plan, direct, and coordinate activities associated with running a large food service operation with one or more production kitchens. The Assistant Food Service Director is also responsible for supervising a group of food service workers that are involved with the preparation and distribution of food in the kitchen.ย

Essential Functions/Core Responsibilitiesย 

  • Responsible for the supervision, training, and management of the facility food service operation.
  • Hires, orients, trains and issues corrective action (when applicable) to team members.
  • Review and approve payroll on a weekly basis.
  • Building and maintaining positive connections with clients by regularly communicating, understanding their needs, proactively addressing concerns, providing excellent service, and working to ensure their continued satisfaction with the company's products or services, ultimately aiming to retain them as long-term customers.
  • Oversees the appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served according to facility or site plan.
  • Insures team is adequately trained and capable to perform job responsibilities in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining accuracy of inventory in advance preparation of planned menu schedule.
  • Insures ordering and all required reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Responsible for overseeing all preventive maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the Program.
  • Manages food service operation in compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as required local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensures that food items are stored in a safe and hazard free manner.
  • Plans for special events and functions thru participation in meetings with assigned customer facility operations staff.
  • Maintain all serving schedules to ensure all food items are served per menu specifications in a safe and appropriate manner according to departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain a sanitary environment following food service and Health Department codes and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate on-site reports of daily and monthly financial, production, and activity.
  • Responsible for any state or other inspection of food service operation.
  • May participate in the contract negotiation and renewal process.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, and you must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Two years of management or supervisory experience in a food service position.
  • Three years of experience working in food service.ย 
  • ServSafe Certification.ย 
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must have experience with purchasing, inventory, ordering and receiving.ย 
  • Knowledge and experience managing and applying kitchen sanitation and safety standards and methods.ย 
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and mathematical abilities to complete necessary reports.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and with food service management systems.ย 
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience is preferred.ย
