Job description

Skillforce has teamed up with a fast growing developer to find a Construction Purchasing/Estimating Manager in Atlanta, GA. This person will oversee purchasing, estimating, bid management, and procurement activities across multiple construction projects. This position will manage the process from early estimating and scope development through bidding, buyout, purchase orders, and long-lead material tracking.

Construction Purchasing/Estimating Manager Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Up to $90.000
  • Quarterly bonus potential
  • Location: in person at the Atlanta, GA office 

Construction Purchasing/Estimating Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the purchasing and procurement process across multiple construction projects.
  • Develop preliminary estimates, review plans, perform quantity takeoffs, and maintain accurate cost information.
  • Create complete trade-specific scopes of work and bid packages.
  • Solicit qualified subcontractors and vendors and manage the bidding process.
  • Review and level bids to compare pricing, exclusions, qualifications, scope gaps, and schedule commitments.
  • Negotiate pricing, scope, schedule, and payment terms with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Prepare award recommendations and purchase orders for management approval.
  • Track buyout schedules and ensure trades are awarded in time to support project schedules.
  • Monitor long-lead materials, including selections, submittals, approvals, orders, fabrication, shipping, and delivery.
  • Review construction documents for scope gaps, overlaps, exclusions, allowances, and trade responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, cost codes, commitments, and procurement reports.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Superintendents regarding budgets, schedules, constructability, site conditions, and material requirements.
  • Assist with subcontractor/vendor onboarding, compliance, capacity, and performance tracking.
  • Review procurement-related invoices and resolve discrepancies before approval.
  • Identify potential cost, schedule, and procurement risks early and communicate solutions to leadership.
  • Develop and maintain purchasing procedures, templates, bid documents, and reporting systems.

Construction Purchasing/Estimating Manager Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in construction purchasing, estimating, preconstruction, project controls, or buyout.
  • Experience working in residential construction, custom homes, commercial construction, or another detail-intensive construction environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and other construction documents.
  • Required proficiency with PlanSwift, including digital takeoffs, measurements, and quantity verification.
  • Experience with construction management or project management software; Buildertrend experience is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets skills, including formulas, lookups, filters, pivot tables, and bid comparisons.
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to develop clear scopes of work and procurement documents.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in estimates, bids, purchase orders, and project costs.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
