Sales Associate
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Sales Associate is responsible for assisting customers throughout the purchasing process including greeting them, operating cash registers, and bagging merchandise. The Sales Associate is expected to be friendly, courteous, and professional while upholding the Goodwill values of Empowerment, Public Trust, Respect, Innovation, Quality, and Safety.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, helping in selecting merchandise, and offering alternative or additional merchandise. Ensure the store has a neat and orderly appearance which includes stocking merchandise, returning merchandise to the proper place, rearranging merchandise moved by customers, dusting, sweeping, and other custodial duties. Rotate inventory and salvage pulled merchandise. Collaborate with store management and other associates to ensure donations promptly reach the sales floor. Assist with the achievement of sales goals for the store.
• Perform sale transactions using a point of sales system (cash register), counting, and providing correct change to customers at the time of sale. Count cash drawer at the beginning and/or close of sales day. Assist with the security of the cash register, store inventory, and observe all surroundings to help prevent theft.
• Relieve other sales associates during breaks, lunches, and emergencies
• Courteously address customer complaints, referring to the Store Manager or Crew Leader as necessary
• Maintain acceptable attendance, personal hygiene, and dress code standards including wearing company-issued name badges. Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
• Adhere to and enforce safety and loss prevention procedures to prevent injury to personnel and damage to property, equipment, and inventory
• Contribute to the fulfillment of department and agency objectives and goals
• Comply with all department and agency policies, procedures, and regulations
• Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
• Ability to multi-task, while being attentive to customers and remaining flexible to the needs of the business
• Ability to work well with others in a respectful and collaborative work manner
• Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively
• Ability to perform basic math skills
• Flexible work schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• One (1) year of cash register experience
• Bilingual
PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch for extended periods
• Weather conditions - variable - including extreme heat and cold, may work outside for extended periods and work in a humid and/or dusty environment
• Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. or more with 2-person assistance
