Job Description:

The Purchasing and Inventory Specialist supports the Materials Manager by executing the administrative and logistical tasks required to purchase goods and services, as well as assisting in inventory control.  This role will assist the Materials Manager in managing procurement, inventory & logistics by tracking stock levels, issuing purchase orders, negotiating vendor pricing, negotiating freight and trouble-shooting any challenges arising in logistics or supply chain.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Materials Manager to determine procurement, logistic and inventory priorities.
  • Create and submit purchase orders to vendors, collect order confirmations and ensure accuracy of pricing, quantity and terms.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services.
  • Negotiate freight quotes, schedule and coordinate pickups, track shipments and resolve any delivery issues.
  • Maintain accurate receiving records for inbound freight by matching receiving documents to purchase orders and order confirmations, notifying Materials Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Visually inspect outbound freight to confirm customer’s orders are fulfilled accurately and that shipments are compliant with DOT requirements.
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods to customers by tracking freight and communicating with carriers.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining documentation related to shipping and receiving.
  • Assist Materials Manager in monitoring inventory levels, including conducting spot checks and reordering stock as needed.
  • Assist Materials Manager in maintaining current vendor lists, including maintaining current pricing, contacts, lead time, logistical information.
  • Assist Materials Manager in locating and qualifying second sources.
  • Assist Materials Manager in updating consumption reports, BOMs, and monitoring inventory turn.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in business administration
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience
  • Great organizational, problem-solving, multitasking, and planning skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks experience
  • Strong oral, written, and follow up communications skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment


-Base wage from $60,000 to $80,000 per year commensurate with experience.
