What You’ll Do

As a Lead Radiologic Technologist, you’ll report to the Coordinator/Director and provide leadership, technical expertise, and support for daily radiology operations. You will operate radiologic equipment to perform diagnostic imaging procedures while determining the appropriate quality and quantity of ionizing radiation needed to produce diagnostic radiographs on injured and/or ill patients.

This role supports quality patient care by performing procedures according to physician orders, department policies, and radiologist direction while serving as a resource for staff, students, and department operations.

Lead Radiologic Technologist Job Responsibilities

Perform radiology procedures and examinations according to physician orders and department policies and procedures.

Evaluate radiographs for technical quality to ensure accurate diagnosis.

Demonstrate skilled positioning techniques in unusual situations, including trauma, surgical, and immobile patients, to obtain the most diagnostic images possible.

Consult with physicians as needed to obtain appropriate levels and views for procedures.

Apply knowledge of imaging techniques to obtain the best image quality while minimizing radiation exposure, including appropriate use of Boost, Pulse, and protocol selection.

Prepare sterile setups for procedures performed under fluoroscopy according to AORN standards.

Prepare patients for procedures using appropriate techniques according to AORN standards.

Ensure procedure rooms are turned over in a timely manner using approved cleansing agents.

Serve as a resource and support for radiology technologists regarding procedures, positioning, equipment operation, and workflow.

Assist with orientation and training of new staff and students.

Support department leadership with maintaining quality standards, efficient workflow, and department processes.

Obtain accurate patient histories from patients, nurses, and physicians and document information appropriately.

Verify patient exam charges to ensure accurate billing and charging.

Enter procedural information into the RIS in a timely manner.

Ensure images are properly stored and available in PACS.

Notify appropriate personnel when PACS corrections are needed.

Accurately enter patient information into the C-arm.

Print images, chart copies, and patient copies as required.

Recognize equipment operation issues and communicate concerns to the appropriate personnel.

Operate diagnostic imaging equipment.

Troubleshoot diagnostic imaging equipment as needed.

Maintain clean and sanitary examination rooms and department areas.

Follow hospital radiation safety regulations.

Wear radiation badge as required and submit badge for testing.

Maintain accurate timekeeping records, including daily clocking, PTO, holidays, and call time.

Utilize email appropriately to receive and communicate department information.

Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Attend and participate in department meetings and remain accountable for information shared.

Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.

Complete annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.

Maintain required licenses, certifications, and registrations in good standing.

Maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications required by the position.

Follow regulatory agency requirements, survey processes, compliance standards, and department policies.

Consistently utilize appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patients and self.

You bring advanced technical knowledge and experience in radiologic procedures, positioning, imaging techniques, and department operations. As a Lead Radiologic Technologist, you demonstrate strong clinical skills, the ability to support team members, and the ability to provide guidance to staff and students. You demonstrate effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with physicians, radiologists, patients, and healthcare team members.

Required Qualifications

Successful completion of college or vocational training in Radiography.

Graduate of a Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (AMA) accredited Radiography Program.

Current ARRT certification or ARRT eligible.

Valid Indiana State Board of Health General Certification.

Must complete CR Specialist Manual within 120 days of obtaining full-time or part-time position or within 6 months if PRN associate.

Must pass ARRT within 9 months of hire for Radiographer position.

Knowledge of radiographic positioning, techniques, film critique, and department protocols related to film/screen and Computed Radiography.

Knowledge of Computed Radiography, Radiologists/E.R. Physicians workstations, Clinical View, PACS Broker, and Radiology Department networking.

Knowledge of radiation protection practices and methods to protect patients, self, and staff.

Ability to support training and education of Radiology students and staff.

Knowledge of radiology department operations and workflow.
