Cleveland Clinic's Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) offers the most advanced technology for diagnosing and monitoring lung diseases. Staffed by pulmonologists, respiratorytherapistsand technicians, we screen patients at risk for lung disease, evaluate their symptoms and the effect of lung disease on lung function, assess the value of respiratory treatments, andmonitorfor reactions to drugs that are known to damage

thelungs.

As aPulmonaryFunction Technician, you will work alongside caregivers to provide diagnostic evaluation of pulmonary function in patients with respiratory insufficiencies.The ideal Technician should have excellent people skills and adjust their own style and approach as necessary in integrations with the patient population.

A caregiver in this position works days from7:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide diagnostic evaluation of pulmonary function in patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
  • Perform ordered pulmonary function testing according to latest ATS/ERS standards and understand criteriarequiredfor sending test results.
  • Perform and analyze quality control data and perform advanced invasive or noninvasive protocols.
  • Prepare,maintain, andcalibratepulmonary function testing equipment.
  • Maintain adequate levels of supplies used for testing.
  • Provideeducational in-services tocaregivers.
  • Perform blood gas puncture and analysis per ClevelandCliniccompetency training.
  • Monitor and evaluate patientresponseduring and after testing.
  • Documentsresultsaccuratelyand promptly report testing results.
  • Determinetesting reference ranges by enteringaccuratedemographics.
  • Recognize andcorrectinvalid or unreasonable test results withanunderstanding of current ATS/ERS standards.
  • Provide basic respiratory education topatients.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate'sdegree from an accredited respiratory therapy program
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credentialed by the NBRC
  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)OR the American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor'sDegree
  • One year of patient care experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to administer six-minute walk tests at a pace of at least 3.0 mph (average walking speed), ability to move K cylinders onto dollies, ability to change K and E gas cylinder regulators with a wrench and ability to lift boxes up to 25 pounds in weight.
  • Ability to perform pulmonary function tests for demonstration purposes and for the collection of biological control data for QC- purposes

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $34.50

Maximum hourly: $45.40
