What is a pulley operator?

Pulley operators are workers responsible for operating and maintaining pulley systems, which are mechanical devices used to lift, lower, or move heavy objects. They ensure that the pulleys function safely and efficiently in settings such as construction sites, warehouses, or theaters. Pulley operators inspect equipment for wear, follow safety protocols, and may assist with the setup or dismantling of rigging systems. Their role is crucial for moving loads that are too heavy to be lifted manually.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pulley operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pulley Operator, you need mechanical aptitude, attention to safety protocols, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with industrial machinery, rigging equipment, and sometimes certification in equipment operation are typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help ensure safe and efficient material handling. These abilities are crucial for minimizing workplace accidents and optimizing productivity in environments where heavy loads are frequently moved.

What are some common challenges faced by pulley operators, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Pulley Operators often encounter challenges such as ensuring proper alignment, managing mechanical wear, and maintaining safety while handling heavy loads. These issues can be addressed by conducting regular equipment inspections, following detailed safety protocols, and collaborating closely with maintenance teams to prevent breakdowns. Staying updated on operational best practices and communicating clearly with team members can also help minimize errors and improve workflow efficiency.

Job description

About Pulley
Pulley helps the country's top architects, builders, and retailers speed up every project in their portfolio. With AI-powered permitting intelligence and expert guidance, we eliminate costly delays and bring predictability across the full lifecycle of commercial projects.
Today, permitting is the slowest, most uncertain part of building, spread across 19,000+ jurisdictions with different rules, timelines, and surprises. Pulley gives project teams the clarity and predictability they need to move from planning to opening without delays.
We support rollout programs for brands like J.Crew, Solidcore, and Hibbett Sports, as well as major data center buildouts, EV charging networks, and other commercial projects. Our platform dramatically reduces approval timelines, improves forecasting accuracy, and removes thousands of hours of manual work from design and construction teams.
Founded in 2021, Pulley combines deep permitting expertise with purpose-built AI from people who have created products used by millions. We're backed by CRV, Susa Ventures, Fifth Wall, and leaders from Plaid, Segment, ServiceTitan, and Procore.
What You'll Do
As Pulley's Head of Business Development and Partnerships, you'll build and own our channel partner program from the ground up, finding, recruiting, and enabling partners who bring business to Pulley across architecture, luxury retail, data centers, and other commercial verticals.
In this role, you will:
  • Work alongside Founders and Marketing team to exhibit Pulley's Brand in highest visibility channels
  • Identify and recruit channel partners who can bring Pulley new business, working across industries and geographies.
  • Close and onboard new partners, then enable them with the tools, positioning, and support they need to represent Pulley well.
  • Hand off partner-sourced opportunities to our Sales team and work closely with Marketing to convert partnerships into real pipeline.
  • Own and grow long-term partner relationships, acting as their primary point of contact at Pulley.
  • Build the playbook for partner sourcing, enablement, and management as you go; there isn't one yet.
  • Bring market feedback from partners back into the business to sharpen our positioning and go-to-market strategy.

Who You Are
  • You're an entrepreneurial builder who thrives creating a program from scratch, not maintaining an existing one.
  • You have a nose for finding the right nodes of influence and turning relationships into revenue.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and figure things out without a playbook.
  • You can evangelize Pulley's value - you're a strong communicator who speaks the customer's language.
  • You collaborate naturally across Sales and Marketing to convert relationships into pipeline.

Need to Have
  • Experience in business development, channel partnerships, or strategic alliances within a B2B, real estate, or construction-adjacent industry.
  • Background at a firm like CBRE (Global Workplace Solutions, Project Management) or JLL (Portfolio, Project Delivery Services), or similar - selling technology or services through corporate real estate accounts.
  • A track record of building a partner or channel program from the ground up.
  • Director-level experience, comfortable with a comp structure balancing base and variable compensation.
  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have
  • Experience selling into architecture, luxury retail, or data center verticals.
  • Existing network within CBRE, JLL, or similar global real estate services firms.
  • Experience partnering closely with marketing to generate co-branded content and pipeline.
