Job description

Engineering Project Manager

Position Overview:

The Project Manager is responsible for leading complex, cross-functional engineering and product development initiatives from concept through release. This role ensures projects and product development activities are executed efficiently, delivering high-quality solutions on time and within budget. This role will also support optical manufacturing-oriented projects, such as fabrication, test, and integration activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Execution: Plan, organize, and manage multiple concurrent engineering and product development projects, including new product introductions, technology development, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Schedule and Budget Management: Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets aligned with the product development roadmap; track performance and proactively address deviations.
  • Risk and Dependency Management: Identify technical, schedule, and resource risks across the product development lifecycle; implement mitigation strategies and manage inter-project dependencies.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead and align Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Applications, and Sales throughout the product development process to ensure seamless execution and on-time product launches.
  • Stakeholder and Executive Communication: Provide clear, structured reporting on project status, product development milestones, risks, and resource needs to engineering leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Change and Configuration Management: Manage scope, requirements, and design changes against, cost and schedule commitments using structured change control processes.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong expertise in project management within engineering and product development environments.
  • Experience with product development lifecycles, phase-gate methodologies, and design control processes.
  • Experience with fabrication and testing processes used in the manufacture of large and highly precise optics.
  • Experience working with customers and stakeholders on large complex projects.
  • Proven ability to optimize processes and drive organizational change.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to influence and drive accountability without direct authority.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience using metrics to improve execution performance and overall outcomes.
  • Experience working in the defense industry with defense primes, and subcontractors.

Reporting and Working Relationships

  • Reports to: Sr. Project Manager
  • Works closely with: Engineering teams, Operations, Finance, and Executive Leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related technical field (Masterโ€™s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, or technology-driven organizations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing product development and complex technical projects.
  • Demonstrated success improving project execution
  • Experience in design and analysis, as it pertains to optical systems is a plus.
  • Security and clearance awareness, with regard to program execution, facility, and personnel clearance processes
  • Qualified to work in a CMMC environment with access to CUI and ITAR data (i.e a โ€œU.S. Personโ€ as defined by ITAR law)

Tools

  • Project and Portfolio Management Tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, JIRA, Microsoft planner, or equivalent).
  • Product Development and Documentation Systems (e.g., PLM, ERP interfaces).
  • Collaboration Platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, SharePoint).
  • Data analysis, reporting, and visualization tools.

Salary Range: $100,000-$140,000

The specific salary offered will be dependent on the education and experience of the applicant as compared with current internal employees with similar education and experience to maintain our internal equity.
