The City of Sterling Heights is seeking a dependable and committed individual to join the Department of Public Works as a full-time Mechanic!

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Division Supervisor,this position performs the more complexrepairs to City vehicles and equipment. Thenew DPW Mechanic will need to be mechanically inclined, as they use independent judgment as to the method of repair. This individual will need to have problem-solving skills, as they will be required to diagnose and repair electronic fuel systems,computer-controlled engine systems, emission systems, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Three (3) years full-time mechanic work experience, including the repair and overhauling of engines, drive trains, suspensions, steering and front ends, and/or heavy diesel equipment.
  • Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes endorsement is required by date of appointment.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • State of Michigan Automobile and Light Truck Certifications in the following areas are highly desired: Manual Transmission and Axles, Front End Suspension & Steering Systems, Brakes and Braking Systems, Electrical Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, Engine Repair, and Engine Tune-Up.
  • Welding and fabrication experience, highly desirable.
