Job description

PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALIST
The District Attorney’s Office is seeking one full-time candidate to serve in the title of Public Relations Specialist. Under direct supervision of the Director of Communications, this employee will be responsible for administering a public relations program for the SCDA that will include media relations, social media content creation, event coordination, and crisis communication. Respon­sibilities in this role include but are not limited to researching, writing, receiving and responding to inquiries, creating content for all forms of communications, including digital channels, and coordinating events such as press conferences. The employee must exercise a moderate amount of independent judgment within established guidelines, and must take initiative in the performance of their duties.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
A successful candidate will have a positive attitude, possess thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices involved in the field of public relations, knowledge of advertising and journalism, possess an ability to develop the most effective approaches to the unique problems of a public service organization, be able to prepare literature (such as press releases and newsletters) which promote a favorable image of the agency, possess an ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and be able to meet the physical conditions commensurate with the demands of the position.
SALARY/BENEFITS
Approximately $54,000, plus our full benefits package. Our full benefits package includes medical, dental and eyeglass coverage for you and your dependents. You will also receive paid vacation, sick, and personal leave, as well as paid holidays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
  1. Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Advertising or related field and two (2) years of ex­perience that regularly involved writing or editing responsibilities in the fields of journalism, marketing, managerial sales or public relations; or,
  2. Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Advertising or related field and two (2) years of ex­perience that regularly involved writing or editing responsibilities in the fields of journalism, marketing, managerial sales or public relations; or,
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by (1) and (2).

PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent competitive status as a Community Relations Assistant or Community Relations Assistant (Spanish Speaking).
