Job description

Are you looking for a hands-on internship working with patrons of all ages in a fast-paced environment where innovation thrives? Through the Deerfield Public Library's MakerSpace internship, you'll help bring ideas to life while gaining valuable, real-world experience. Our dynamic MakerSpace is a busy hub for both patrons and staff, offering a wide variety of programs, workshops, and creative projects every day. As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge equipment, support engaging events, provide outstanding customer service, and learn alongside experienced staff. If you're passionate about making, exploring new technologies, and inspiring creativity, we'd love to have you on our team.

Timeframe: October 12, 2026 - December 15, 2026 

Schedule: Part-Time, 20 hours per week 

  • Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday: 12:00 - 5:00 pm

Compensation: $17 per hour

What Youโ€™ll Do Every Day:

  • Collaborate with the MakerSpace staff to assist in all aspects of the daily operation and use of the MakerSpace.

  • Provide excellent customer service while working at the MakerSpace service desk.

  • Answer phone calls and help patrons with both scheduled and walk-in projects.

  • Assist patrons and staff with MakerSpace related equipment, software, and activities.

  • Operate and provide basic troubleshooting for MakerSpace equipment.

  • Assist Library staff with planned programs and events, including setup tasks and guiding patrons.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Active MLIS/MLS students encouraged to apply

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Robust computer and technology skills, experience with MakerSpace technologies 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
