College Information: The College of Business and Public Administration (BPA) offers a variety of degrees which prepares
tomorrow's business and community leaders. The areas include BS in Business Administration (BSBA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), BA in Public Administration (BAPA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), MS in Health Care Administration (MS-HCA), Master of Science in Administration, BS in Economics, BS in Environmental Resource Management, and BS in Agricultural Business. The business degrees offer a breadth of focused concentrations. The BSBA, MBA, and BS in Economics programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and the MPA program is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). Research is strongly supported by the College through workload adjustments and professional development funding, but the primary focus of the College is on student success Most programs and concentrations are supported through the activities of associated student organizations and advisory groups. The College has an increasing focus on student success and has made impressive progress in terms of retention and graduation rates. Department Information: The Department of Accounting and Finance is home to two academic programs: Accounting and Finance. The Accounting program prepares students for careers in public, corporate, governmental, and nonprofit accounting while providing a strong foundation for professional certifications such as the CPA, CMA, and CIA. The Finance program prepares students for careers in financial analysis, financial planning, investment banking, portfolio management, corporate finance, and related fields. It also helps students prepare for professional credentials such as the CFA, CFP, CLU, ChFC, CPCU, and APA.
Position Description: The Department of Accounting and Finance at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time accounting lecturers.
Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15th.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or a closely related field with an accounting concentration, along with a professional accounting credential (e.g., CPA, CMA, or CIA); or
- Graduate degree in a business-related field with substantial industry experience in accounting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Accounting or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Prior university-level teaching experience.
Rank and Salary: Lecturer. Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows (amounts prorated for part-time assignments):
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per month

Background and Reference Checks: A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed. Out of State Employment: Per CSU-wide policy, all faculty who will begin initial employment (or return from a 12-month break in service) on or after January 1, 2022 are required to perform their work from within the State of California. Faculty assignments include in-person duties that require an on-campus presence.
Mandated Reporter: The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. The person will also have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct or exploitation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation under the CSU Interim Nondiscrimination Policy.
Clery Act: CSUB's annual crime report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus centers, such as our Antelope Valley Satellite Campus, and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from CSUB. The report also includes policies concerning security on campus, such as alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, reporting crimes, sexual assault, and other subjects.
