What is a PTI?

PTI stands for Physical Training Instructor. PTIs are professionals who design, lead, and supervise physical training programs, often within organizations such as the military, schools, or fitness centers. Their primary role is to improve physical fitness, teach exercise techniques, and ensure participants' safety during physical activities. PTIs also assess fitness levels, provide motivation, and may organize sports events or fitness assessments. Their expertise is crucial for promoting health, discipline, and overall well-being in various settings.

What are some of the main challenges PTIs face when working with diverse student groups?

Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) often work with students who have varying levels of fitness, motivation, and physical ability. One common challenge is designing and adapting training programs that accommodate these differences while ensuring safety and effective skill development for all participants. PTIs must also be skilled in motivating individuals who may be less enthusiastic about physical activity, and in fostering a supportive, inclusive environment. Strong communication and adaptability are essential to help every student progress and reach their fitness goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Physical Training Instructor (PTI), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Physical Training Instructor (PTI), you need expertise in exercise science, physical fitness, and basic first aid, often supported by a relevant degree or fitness certification. Familiarity with fitness assessment tools, training program software, and CPR/AED certification is typically required. Strong motivational skills, leadership, and effective communication distinguish top PTIs in inspiring and guiding clients or groups. These skills ensure safe, effective training sessions that help individuals achieve their fitness goals and maintain overall well-being.

PTI - Packaging Technologies & Inspection is headquartered in Hawthorne, New York, a Westchester County community close to New York City. We are a team of engineers, scientists and professionals serving the packaging industry as a leading equipment manufacturer of package inspection equipment for the pharmaceutical, medical devices, food, and container industries.

PTI’s management and R & D team focus has been on developing inspection technologies for the packaging industry that perform with a high degree of precision and reliability, and simplify testing and validation processes in the pharmaceutical, medical device, food and container industries.

PTI’s inspection technologies are non‑destructive, non‑subjective and provide companies with solutions to improve their quality and process control, while reducing product waste and cost.

As we continue our successful journey, we are looking to add more talented, innovative and dedicated engineers to our team. So, if you are someone who enjoys work because of the sense of accomplishment that it gives you, and if you want to be part of a high impact team working for a global company that is the leader in the Container Closure Integrity testing industry, then contact us, because working at PTI is not just a job… it’s a passion!

The Team: PTI R&D Department

This position is as a team member of PTI’s R&D Department, which is responsible for designing and developing the most sophisticated non‑destructive container closure system inspection technologies in the world.

The Role: Mechanical Engineer

Are you a high energy employee? Do you get enthusiastic about bringing your ideas to life? Have you successfully applied your mechanical skills in the real world? If you can answer these questions affirmatively, you should consider joining our team.

A collaborative, dynamic, creative, deep‑thinking and technically intelligent professional is being sought to provide hands‑on mechanical engineering expertise to our engineering team and to customer sites. This position is responsible for sound mechanical design, effectively working through assembly challenges and providing improvement ideas to previously released products. We are looking for candidates who are comfortable working with mechanical design and parts, and interfacing with electro‑mechanical systems. The role requires practical thinking around all aspects of engineered solutions.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must have legal permission to work in the U.S. and have a valid passport.
  • Degree from a four‑year secondary education program.
  • Experience in the areas of Design, Integration, Machine Manufacturing, Parts Engineering, Mechanical Systems, or Equipment Development for 1–3 years.
  • Proficiency in a CAD Software (like Solidworks).
  • Understanding of Electro‑Mechanical Systems.
  • Experience writing technical reports.
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience in equipment design, including design, machining, and manufacturing.
Benefits
  • 40‑hour work weeks, 8‑5 (Office cleared out by 6 PM)
  • Progressive vacation plan
  • Global mindset and an intelligent team of employees

Upon joining the team, you could find yourself working on patentable technologies and providing a comprehensive solution to improve the quality of high‑risk packaged products. The solutions are delivered to sites globally. No two days are the same, we are seeking someone that deeply appreciates the dynamic aspect of this role.

ALL qualified applicants will receive consideration. PTI is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
