Job Description Summary
We are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Controls Engineer to support our Engine Test department. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical expert on 2nd shift for the testing of Marine and Industrial engines. You will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving PLC-based facility and test cell equipment, HMI/SCADA systems, and associated data acquisition hardware. The ideal candidate will bring strong controls engineering experience, hands-on troubleshooting capability, and the ability to diagnose complex electrical and mechanical issues in a fast-paced test environment.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary technical support for 2nd shift control system issues within engine test cells
  • Troubleshoot electrical components, including relays, sensors, actuators, and transducers, to quickly resolve equipment failures
  • Maintain, debug, and improve PLC programs, including Woodward and Allen Bradley systems
  • Maintain and support HMI/SCADA systems, including ToolboxST and Prophecy Machine Edition
  • Integrate PLCs with HMI/SCADA systems and ensure proper communication through protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and TCP/IP
  • Read, interpret, and analyze electrical schematics, mechanical wiring diagrams, and related documentation to diagnose and repair equipment
  • Partner with test technicians to prepare test stands, monitor system performance, and ensure data accuracy during engine testing
  • Perform preventive maintenance on controls and data acquisition hardware
  • Complete backups of engine control programs and support equipment reliability

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Automation, or a related engineering field
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in controls engineering, industrial automation, or a related field
  • Experience with Woodward controls and/or ToolboxST / Prophecy Machine Edition
  • Experience integrating PLCs with HMI/SCADA systems
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and TCP/IP
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Ability to work 2nd shift and occasional overtime as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Allen Bradley Controls, including Logix 5000 / Studio 5000
  • Programming or scripting experience with Python or MATLAB for data analysis
  • Proficiency using Notepad++ for program editing
  • Background in computer engineering, networking, and network security, including VPNs and firewalls
  • Experience with engine dynamometer testing and data acquisition software such as AVL PUMA
  • Experience with PID loops and process control
