A prosthetist fits patients for a prosthetic device such as an artificial limb or supportive brace, creates the design for the prosthesis, and adjusts and repairs the device over time. As a prosthetist, your responsibilities include evaluating patients and interviewing them to determine the right prosthesis type, materials, and fit for their needs. You design medical devices from doctor prescriptions or oversee a specialist who designs the devices, communicate with patients on how to care for and adjust their prosthetic devices, and maintain meticulous patient measurements and records. You specialize in either orthotics or prosthetics or offer services in both areas.
