Senior Area General Manager - Oncology & Hematology - Pacific Northwest

The Senior Area General Manager (Sr. AGM) is responsible for delivering top-line targets by effectively leading and managing a dynamic cross-functional customer-facing team within their business unit. The role will manage a cost base which consists of personnel and flexible spend and will make necessary trade-offs to maximize impact. The Sr. AGM has a deep understanding of the specific needs of healthcare practitioners and healthcare systems within Oncology and Hematology across multiple products and tumor types; ultimately driving customer and patient-centric outcomes while ensuring performance goals are met. The role requires extensive collaboration with HQ and other stakeholders to drive performance outcomes.

The Senior Area General Manager in Oncology will cover the North Texas territory. Travel up to 50% and the candidate must be domiciled within (or within reasonable commute) to the territory.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Area General Manager (Sr. AGM) - Oncology/Hematology, are to:

  • Accountable for achieving revenue goals for the area. Execute comprehensive strategies and initiatives to drive revenue growth and market share in the region. Work within the financial framework provided by the organization. Identify unique roles, structures, and alignment. Resource the team appropriately based on geographic/market needs;
  • Accountable for developing and leading a high-performing team in the business unit. This team includes sales representatives, key account managers, regional account directors, and other specialized roles as deemed necessary. Responsible for regularly assessing and determining the size and composition of the team based on market needs;
  • Embody the key elements of being an outstanding leader, visionary, architect, coach, and catalyst. Develop a One Team approach with a mindset of shared accountability within the team. Responsible for coaching and developing team members and helping them realize their full potential;
  • Gain and apply a deep understanding of relevant markets, business models, strategic priorities, future direction, and financial drivers. This includes understanding and engaging in key local and national healthcare issues/strategies, customer issues/trends, pathway and quality trends, and best practices;
  • Define the regional strategy and priorities in collaboration with the cross-functional and HQ team. Manage a portfolio of Oncology and Hematology brands in Prostate, Targeted Therapies, and Hemophilia and dynamically allocate resources to maximize impact. Set, execute, and measure market-based objectives for the business unit;
  • Direct local squad P&L by closely monitoring monthly financial reports, optimize budget utilization through strategic allocation for various marketing and customer engagement initiatives and programs. Deploy and organize human resources to maximize return on investment and drive sales growth;
  • Develop long-term relationships with influential customers to address current and future business opportunities and advance brand(s) adoption. Understand customer business needs and effectively and compliantly communicate the value proposition through proposals and presentations;
  • Maintain timely communications with all direct reports and matrix partners, management, and internal and external stakeholders;
  • Lead and orchestrate initiatives that are national in scope, acting as an intermediary with the Vice President of Sales, cross-functional teams, and collaborating with other Sr. Area General Managers ensuring field deployment excellence and strategy. National initiatives will include, but are not limited to, product launch planning, incentive compensation, learning, and development;
  • Oversee and coordinate appropriate allocation of specialized support resources (e.g., Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs), Regional Account Directors (RADs), Oncology Nurse Educators (ONEs), Oncology Regional Marketers (ORMs), etc.) across other area businesses. The specialized support teams will either report directly or have dotted-line reporting to the Sr. AGM. The Sr. AGM will provide directional guidance and alignment when specialized resources are needed across other area business units within Oncology;
  • Sit on and lead one or more operational committees and workstream teams to represent the Oncology/Hematology field organization (operational teams include, but are not limited to: Field Advisory, Incentive Compensation, Medical, L&D, Account Management). Influence functional stakeholders to steer the needs of the field organization and provide advice and counsel within the committee on recommended deployment strategies that will advance business.
WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with 8+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech sector with roles of increasing responsibility in sales, account management, market access, brand management, commercial operations, medical, etc.;
  • Exemplary leadership and senior management skills with the ability to inspire and lead global teams. Demonstrated success in leading operational functions within senior/executive management teams;
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech sector in roles of increasing responsibility in sales, account management, market access, brand management, commercial operations, medical, etc.;
  • High level of business and financial acumen;
  • Ability to identify strategies with the greatest business impact. Demonstrated success with formulating and implementing business plans in a highly matrixed, cross‑functional environment;
  • Thorough understanding of health systems, customer segments, regional market dynamics, and KOL development within the therapeutic area(s);
  • Willing and able to travel routinely on a weekly basis;
  • Current and/or prior experience leading specialized support teams (e.g., FRM, RAD, Clinical Educators, etc.) and/or leadership positions managing multiple levels within the organization; must have demonstrated a strong ability to lead without authority in a matrixed organization;
  • Demonstrated experience leading national workstreams, with proven ability to manage competing priorities and collective business needs;
  • Experience working in or part of operational roles such as incentive compensation planning, learning and development, medical, account management, etc.;
  • Deep understanding of national & regional business strategies, with proven ability to influence field deployment strategies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • People leadership and/or cross‑functional experiences strongly preferred;
  • Oncology expertise preferred;
  • Experience in managing budgets, negotiating for resources, and maximizing the return on investment preferred;
  • Experience in leading multi‑disciplinary teams strongly preferred with demonstrated strength in coaching and mentoring teams/peers; helping others to meet or exceed their goals, targets, and other responsibilities.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $224,240.00 - $336,360.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
