Job description

BL Companies is growing and seeking a driven and experienced Senior Environmental Scientist or Project Manager with 8+ years of experience to join our Environmental group. This position offers the opportunity to lead and manage environmental compliance, site assessment, and remediation projects while supporting a diverse client base that includes municipalities, state agencies, transportation‑related programs, and industrial and commercial clients. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and project management from proposal development through project completion, prepare and review regulatory and technical deliverables, coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, support construction‑phase environmental services, mentor junior staff, and contribute to business development and strategic growth of environmental services in Rhode Island.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead environmental due diligence scopes under DOT and municipal compliance programs, including Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA)
  • Coordinate and communicate with regulatory agencies, clients, subcontractors, and internal project team members to support timely and efficient project delivery
  • Prepare, write, and review detailed technical reports and client deliverables
  • Develop scopes of works, budgets, proposals aligned with project objectives
  • Supervise, and as needed perform, field activities including environmental sampling, field oversight, and support of investigation and remediation projects
  • Implement and oversee health and safety protocols for field activities
  • Business and team development, including client relationship management, staff mentoring, and strategic growth of environmental services
Qualifications
  • BS in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in environmental site assessment and compliance
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience coordinating with clients, regulators, and subcontractors
  • Experience with field sampling, including soil, groundwater, air, and vapor
Preferred (but not required)
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Demonstrated interest and potential to grow into a leadership role with increasing responsibilities in business development and staff management
  • In‑depth knowledge of Rhode Island environmental regulations
