Job description

Senior Manager, Operations

Reporting to the Director, Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for directing and managing the activities of a group of employees which include contractors, supervisors, group leaders and various craft technicians engaged in the operation, maintenance and repair of hydroelectric facilities and associated equipment to ensure safe, efficient and reliable energy production in a manner consistent with operational and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that company personnel, contractors and consultants are following company approved Health & Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with applicable legislations;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, and codes of operation and conduct;
  • Manage and coordinate all activities related to maintenance and operations for the Androscoggin River. 
  • Establish, plan and execute maintenance programs and balance with operational priorities;
  • Ensure the development and implementation of short and long term strategies, and assist in the develop of budgets and work plans;
  • Allocate resources to achieve annual corporate HSSE, maintenance and administration plans and objectives within established budgets;
  • Tender, contract and negotiate agreements with contractors or consultants on behalf of Brookfield;
  • Supervise maintenance, trades and technical staff and assist in the development of training plans;
  • Monitor the appropriate engagement of employees within their group and ensure necessary activities occur to maintain/enhance that engagement;
  • Capable of managing their own accountabilities with limited direct manager interaction, while ensuring appropriate communications occurs within the organization. Requirements
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in Hydro or other generation plant operations and maintenance with at least 8-10 years of supervisory experience;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Encourage growth and skills in staff, exhibit confidence in self and others, and demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness and professionalism;
  • Ensure that company personnel, contractors and consultants are following company approved HSSE policies and procedures, and that public and company property is protected;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, and company codes of operation and conduct;
  • Excellent working knowledge of safety regulations, EUSA safety rules, Brookfield policies, rules and procedures;
  • Knowledge of scheduling, planning and budgetary controls and ability to prepare technical reports;
  • Ability to set priorities for multiple objectives.
  • Superior skills and abilities in written and oral communications, analysis, problem-solving, planning, prioritizing and organizing abilities;
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications;
  • Excellent functional and technical skills;
  • Ability to withstand and function under stressful situations;
  • Willingness to learn and expand into roles outside their area of operation;
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license – traveling required.

Salary: $140k-$155k plus bonus
