Tobacco Road Golf Club, located in Sanford, NC, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a Property Controller! We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fastpaced hospitality-focused property organization. Position Summary
Tobacco Road Golf Club is consistently recognized among the Top 100 public golf courses in the United States and welcomes golfers from across the world. We are seeking a strategic, analytical, and hands-on Property Controller to lead all financial operations of the property.

This position serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and works closely with the General Manager and Ownership to ensure the financial strength, operational efficiency, and long-term success of the business. The Property Controller oversees accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, payroll, financial reporting, internal controls, purchasing oversight, inventory management, and compliance across all operating departments.

The ideal candidate is an experienced financial leader who enjoys partnering with department heads, developing teams, identifying opportunities for growth, and helping drive operational excellence in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Essential Duties

  • Lead all accounting and financial operations for the property.
  • Assist in developing annual operating and capital budgets; prepare weekly, monthly, and annual forecasts.
  • Prepare timely monthly financial statements with variance analysis and executive recommendations.
  • Oversee daily revenue audit processes including POS, tee sheet, credit card settlements, cash handling, deposits, gift cards, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, purchasing approvals, segregation of duties, fraud prevention, and asset protection.
  • Oversee payroll review, payroll taxes, PTO liability, benefits accounting, and labor reporting.
  • Manage banking relationships, cash forecasting, merchant services, and capital planning.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and physical inventories for golf shop, food, beverage, and merchandise.
  • Coordinate annual audit, tax filings, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review vendor contracts and purchasing programs.
  • Provide financial analysis on rounds, revenue per tee time, retail margins, food & beverage performance, labor, and operating trends.
  • Partner with department leaders to identify efficiencies and improve profitability.
  • Present financial results to ownership and executive leadership.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting leadership experience; hospitality, golf, resort, or club experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, inventory accounting, payroll, and financial analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with accounting, POS, and golf management systems (e.g., Lightspeed Golf, QuickBooks, Bill.com)

Performance Expectations

  • Month-end close completed within 7-10 business days.
  • Accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Successful annual audit with no material findings.
  • Strong budget discipline and inventory control.
