Job description

Federated Co-ops, Inc is looking to hire a Propane Driver / Rail Specialist to work out of our Cambridge Propane Plant! As the Propane Driver / Rail Specialist, you will be responsible for unloading railcars, maintaining accurate documentation and inventory, and delivering liquified petroleum (LP) gas to our patrons in a safe and efficient manner. This role includes operating tank trucks, installing and servicing propane systems, and ensuring full compliance with DOT, NFPA, and company safety regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Propane Driver / Rail Specialist include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Operate equipment to assist with railcar placement and movement.
  • Unload railcars into inventory and maintain accurate inventory levels at all times.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with railroad personnel.
  • Provide accurate documentation for unloaded railcars including railcar identification numbers.
  • Load propane into bulk trucks and deliver product to customer storage tanks in accordance with company, division, and location policy and procedures.
  • Safely drive and operate trucks, vehicles, equipment, and tools in compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, manufacturer instructions, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws, and any other applicable laws, codes, or regulations.
  • Perform tank setting, leak testing, tank management and repairs for LP gas systems as required by NFPA codes and regulations.
  • Maintain and paint LP gas tanks at company and customer locations.
  • Inspect and maintain bulk facility, bulk trucks and equipment to ensure cleanliness, safety, proper operation and positive cooperative image.
  • Assist the Sales Department with calls and potential sales target areas.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all work as required by company, division, and location policy.
  • Provide necessary lot maintenance including gravel grading and snow removal.
  • Maintain a safe and clean workplace, free from refuse, debris, and unnecessary hazards. Adhere to the Secure Site Plan. Adhere to Federated policies and procedures and communicate to those loading at the facility.
  • Communicate regularly with the Location Manager.
  • Available and able to work on-call during weeknights and weekends.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • One to three months related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous Propane and CDL experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Active CDL with appropriate endorsements preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B CDL License with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements.
  • MPA Rail Unloading certification or equivalent (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to regularly lift and /or move more than 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee will manually dig trenches to install LP gas lines. Employee will lift and carry cement blocks.
Compensation:
The pay range for the Propane Driver / Rail Specialist is $20 - $30/hour. The actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills, and certifications.
