Job description

Job Title: Prepress Operator Apprentice

Shift: Swing Shift (Typically 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM / Monday – Friday)
Position Type: Full-Time / Entry-Level

Position Summary

Launch your career in the specialized craft of professional print preparation. We are a team with deep institutional knowledge looking to invest in and mentor an ambitious individual who wants to master a highly technical trade.

This role focuses strictly on desktop prepress operations—no press or plate operation is required. Through hands-on training from seasoned experts, you will learn to process digital files, manage color profiles, and output high-accuracy proofs for both offset and digital printing using the industry-leading Kodak Prinergy workflow system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preflighting: Master software tools to automatically evaluate digital files and catch layout, bleed, font, color profiles, and image resolution before production.
  • Workflow Processing: Learn to navigate, upload, and manage files within our workflow system.
  • Multi-Format Layout: Learn imposition layouts for diverse print formats, including offset layouts and digital layouts.
  • Color Formatting: Assist in adjusting color profiles.
  • Proofing Operations: Learn to set up, run, and maintain high-resolution G7 Epson and Roland contract proofers.
  • Content Verification: Output and assemble Iris blueline proofs to verify accurate page imposition and layout.
  • Shift Handovers: Work with our team to ensure continuous production.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Software Aptitude: Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) is a major plus.
  • Visual Accuracy: Strong eye for detail to catch minor text, layout, or color flaws during proofing.
  • Basic Math: Ability to read rulers and calculate dimensions, margins, and bleeds accurately.
  • Reliability: Dependable attendance history necessary to support consistent 2nd shift production.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive, paid on-the-job training covering Kodak Prinergy, offset and digital prepress workflows.
  • Experience working with industry-standard G7 color management and professional proofing systems.
  • Path toward a skilled journeyman prepress role.
