POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibilities of this role take a leading role in the development of new manufacturing processes and technologies to support R&D/Prototype product development. This role will develop said processes/technologies for new products to meet customer requirements and ensure there is a successful path forward to commercial manufacturing. Responsible for initiating and conducting defined technical tasks associated within a manufacturing environment. This position operates under minimal guidance from supervisor or senior technical individual but work direction may come from other sources including cross-functional teams. May also have junior technical individuals (such as technicians) reporting to them. The R&D Engineer II ensures ProMed’s brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assess process capabilities, innovates, and implements new processes or improvements on multiple and moderately complex parts and processes.
  • Develop manufacturing processes and new technologies in support of new product development and manufacturing of molded components and assemblies
  • Optimize manufacturing processes to support the scale-up of new technologies and/or processes.
  • Lead and support technical R&D/prototype projects for customers. Meet objectives/targets as in on time delivery, customer satisfaction, etc. Report on progress at regular intervals.
  • Determine equipment requirements and assist in the development of capital expansion projects for new process development and future growth opportunities.
  • Implements established industry practices related to equipment and manufacturing that are new to ProMed.
  • Creates technical reports by capturing experimental results.
  • Applies technical knowledge to innovate, design, and develop processes, procedures, tooling and/or automation.
  • Apply internal and external customer requirements in process development.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturability input to the tool design.
  • Ensure proper documentation has been written to meet quality systems requirements.
  • Use design for manufacturing practices and an understanding of current manufacturing capabilities to translate customer requirements into reasonable product specifications.
  • Interacts and collaborates with customers to effectively support and recommend appropriate studies for their products or technology.
  • Oversee development builds associated with the project.
  • Based on knowledge and understanding of the manufacturing process, predict technical interactions and provide contingency plans to mitigate project and manufacturing risks.
  • Trains and/or provides work direction to technicians and may train manufacturing operators when required.
  • Establishes and cultivates a network of support (laboratory, quality, manufacturing, engineering, sales, and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments.
  • The employee is expected to develop acceptable work habits, skills, knowledge, and contributions consistent with the R&D Engineer II position level.
  • This job also requires performing other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of applicable engineering experience or individuals with a masters (MS) degree in an engineering or related field.
  • Familiar with a variety of medical manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Design for manufacturability knowledge and applicable skills
  • Strong technical writing ability with experience writing product requirements, specifications, test protocols, and test reports.
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Experience in print reading with GD&T
  • Demonstrated interest in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written) to management, customers, and colleagues. Receives information effectively.
  • Organized person that is a self-starter with a proven ability to successfully work with minimal supervision.
  • Professional, courteous, and friendly personality
  • Working knowledge of English (verbal and written)
Preferred:
  • Strong knowledge and first-hand experience with injection molding technology, preferably with silicone

  • Employee may have duties involving walking on even or uneven surfaces;
  • Employee occasionally to frequently use a whiteboard, which can require grasping whiteboard pens, reaching at, below, or above shoulder height and may require trunk or neck rotation to look back;
  • Employee may use computers, overhead projectors, TV, VCR, and other work-related equipment, which may require an approximately 25+ pound force to push or pull equipment;
  • It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc. occasionally to frequently.
  • Employee must see and hear on a continuous basis as well as speak frequently;
  • Position varies from standing, sitting, walking, etc. On some occasions it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. over smooth or uneven surfaces.
