How much do projection welder jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for projection welder in the United States is $20.15, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.35 and $25.00 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by projection welders on the job, and how can they be addressed?

Projection welders often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistent weld quality, dealing with equipment malfunctions, and working with a variety of materials and part geometries. Addressing these challenges typically involves regular equipment maintenance, close attention to setup parameters, and ongoing skills development. Collaborating with quality control teams and production supervisors also helps ensure that any issues are identified and resolved quickly, supporting a smooth workflow and high product standards.

How to make 100,000 as a welder?

Projection welders can earn $100,000 or more annually by gaining specialized skills, working in high-demand industries like aerospace or automotive, and obtaining certifications such as AWS or ASME. Working overtime, taking on supervisory roles, or relocating to regions with higher wages can also increase earnings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Projection Welder, and why are they important?

To excel as a Projection Welder, you need strong manual dexterity, understanding of welding techniques, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent, with vocational training being a plus. Familiarity with projection welding machines, blueprint reading, and safety certifications such as OSHA are often required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork are important soft skills for this role. These skills ensure the production of high-quality welds, safe operation, and efficient collaboration in a manufacturing environment.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A projection welder can potentially earn $10,000 or more per month through skilled welding in industrial settings, especially with overtime and specialized projects. High-paying welding roles often require certifications, experience, and the ability to work in demanding environments, but they do not typically require a college degree.

What is a projection welder?

A projection welder is a skilled tradesperson who uses resistance welding techniques to join metal parts by applying electrical current through projections or raised areas on the workpieces. This job requires knowledge of welding equipment, safety protocols, and often involves working in manufacturing or assembly environments. Certification and attention to detail are important for quality and safety.

What are projection welders?

Projection welders are skilled tradespeople who operate specialized welding machines to join metal pieces using the projection welding technique. This process involves creating raised sections, or projections, on one workpiece that focus the welding current and pressure to specific spots, resulting in precise, strong welds. Projection welders are commonly used in manufacturing industries, especially in automotive and appliance production, to efficiently assemble components. Their responsibilities include setting up welding equipment, preparing materials, monitoring weld quality, and ensuring safety standards are met.

Can you make 300k as a welder?

Projection welders typically do not earn $300,000 annually; wages vary based on experience, location, and industry. High salaries may be possible for highly skilled welders working in specialized fields or supervisory roles, but such earnings are uncommon for standard welding positions. Certifications, advanced skills, and overtime can increase earning potential but reaching $300,000 is rare in the welding profession.

What is the difference between Projection Welder vs Spot Welder?

AspectProjection WelderSpot Welder
CredentialsTypically requires welding certifications and safety trainingSimilar certification requirements, often overlapping
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, assembly lines, working with sheet metalManufacturing facilities, working on metal joints
Industry UsageAutomotive, appliance, metal furniture manufacturingAutomotive, aerospace, appliance industries

Projection welders and spot welders both operate in manufacturing environments, often requiring similar certifications and working with sheet metal. While projection welders use a projection to focus heat and pressure for welding, spot welders create localized welds by applying pressure and electrical current. Both roles are essential in metal fabrication industries, with overlapping skills and work settings.
