What is Project Zero?

Project Zero is a team at Google dedicated to finding and reporting security vulnerabilities, or 'zero-day' exploits, in software used by people around the world. Their main goal is to make the internet a safer place by discovering and helping to fix critical security flaws before malicious hackers can exploit them. The team conducts independent research, works with software vendors to ensure vulnerabilities are addressed quickly, and publicly discloses their findings to promote transparency and industry-wide improvement in security.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of project management methodologies, often supported by a degree in a relevant field and certifications like PMP or PRINCE2. Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills help you coordinate teams and drive projects to completion. These competencies ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, contributing to organizational success.

What are some common challenges faced by members of a Project Zero team and how can they be addressed?

Members of a Project Zero team, who typically focus on identifying and reporting security vulnerabilities, often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines for vulnerability disclosure, balancing transparency with responsible reporting, and staying current with rapidly evolving security threats. Effective collaboration with both internal teams and external vendors is essential to ensure vulnerabilities are addressed promptly and securely. Building strong communication skills and maintaining a structured workflow can help manage these challenges, while ongoing learning and professional development are crucial for staying ahead in the field.

Job description

Mantis Innovation provides managed facility services and turnkey program management with technology-enabled solutions that target the entire building footprint. We look at the entire facility-inside and out-and can impact 70% of what a building operator allocates critical budget dollars toward, including: Strategic electricity and natural gas procurement, renewable energy, and demand response; climate impact reduction and reporting, net zero strategies, and sustainability planning; roofing, solar, HVAC assessment management, pavement, building envelope, data center optimization, and EV charging; lighting/LED retrofits, HVAC/mechanical systems, and BMS/BAS improvements and implementation.

The Sr. Project Engineer helps clients identify, design, and implement utility and infrastructure improvements. This role solves the challenge of turning complex facility needs into practical projects that improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. The position leads technical assessments, feasibility analysis, project scoping, and engineering design to support informed investment decisions. This role is critical to delivering accurate project recommendations, strong technical solutions, and well-executed engineering support from concept through implementation.

OUTCOMES & SCORECARD FOR SUCCESS
  1. Complete 95% of assigned site surveys, feasibility studies, and investment-grade cost estimates by the committed deadline, with less than 5% requiring material rework due to engineering errors or omissions.
  2. Develop and deliver technical scopes, project economics, and engineering recommendations that contribute to at least $5 million annually in qualified project opportunities approved for proposal or implementation.
  3. Demonstrate a consistently positive attitude, strong collaboration, and reliable responsiveness with clients, internal teams, and project partners, as evidenced by constructive stakeholder feedback and dependable follow-through on commitments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Conduct site surveys and collect technical, operational, utility, and cost data to establish project baselines and identify client needs.
  2. Analyze facility infrastructure, utility systems, and operating conditions to identify energy, water, and operational improvement opportunities.
  3. Perform feasibility studies and technical evaluations for utility modernization and energy efficiency solutions.
  4. Develop project scopes, engineering assumptions, savings calculations, and investment-grade cost estimates.
  5. Prepare technical recommendations, project economics, and supporting documentation for client proposals and decision-making.
  6. Lead design engineering activities for approved projects, ensuring technical quality and alignment with project objectives.
  7. Coordinate internal and external engineering resources to deliver design work on schedule and within scope.
  8. Manage engineering support for project implementation, including design-build coordination, technical reviews, and integration of applicable incentives or funding opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in development, design, or delivery of utility system modernization, energy efficiency, or related infrastructure projects.

  • Technical experience with utility, HVAC, mechanical, or related infrastructure systems.
  • Ability to independently manage engineering work and coordinate with clients, internal teams, and external partners.
