Position Description
Position Summary: Assistant Project Managers ensure that projects run smoothly from start to finish by helping with planning and execution. This role is to assist with the planning, organization, and management of the day-to-day operations, as well as any other responsibilities that the Project Manager sees fit.
A successful Assistant Project Manager will demonstrate financial management skills, leadership in the areas of quality and safety, and the ability to independently manage small to average-size projects or complex scopes of larger projects from start to close-out.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in total project responsibility, scheduling, safety, staff compliance, staff developments and reviews, buyouts, and contract negotiation, pay applications, monthly job status meetings, and quality control.
• Manage customer relationships, project planning, project document management, and assist in leading weekly subcontractor meetings.
• Assemble and prepare complete and well-thought-out estimates; perform quantity takeoffs and bid evaluations; clarify specific information and assumptions.
• Prepare accurate and concise contracts, subcontracts and purchase orders.
• Assist in reviewing change orders with the General Contractor and Sub-contractors.
• Assist in scheduling and/or facilitating the various project meetings.
• Have thorough knowledge of all major project issues and priorities.
• Assist in close out of the project.
• Complete safety inspections and discipline employees according to the policy if necessary.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with necessary specifications.
• Analyzing data as required.
• Tracking and reporting project progress.
• Carry out daily operational tasks in an effective and timely manner.
Position Requirements
Preferred Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements:
• Degree in engineering or construction management from an accredited college or university
• Minimum 1-3 years' experience in the commercial construction industry
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities and timeframes
• Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to interact with a diverse employee population, and proven ability to work in a team setting.
• Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Self-starter who works well independently
• Adaptable and calm under pressure
• Expert problem solver
