As a Project Engineer at ISAT/Tomarco Contractor Specialties, LLC, you will play a key role in supporting our engineering operations and contributing to the success of our construction projects. Based in La Mirada, CA, you will collaborate with the engineering team to manage essential project tasks, maintain clear communication with team members and clients, and ensure the smooth progression of projects. Your responsibilities will include providing project management support, organizing project documentation, assisting in the development of seismic bracing layouts, and performing load calculations. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your skills in a fast-paced environment with a leading industry innovator.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

  • Project Management Support: Assist with project tasks and act as an ISAT representative on project activities with basic project management knowledge.
  • Time Tracking and Billing: Use Nexus software to log all work hours, including project work, administrative tasks, and personal leave.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with team members and clients through emails, follow-ups, and documentation in Nexus.
  • File Management: Organize and maintain project files following ISAT’s naming conventions and structure.
  • Submittals and Legends: Build basic submittals and bracing legends for projects using ISAT’s software tools, following seismic design requirements.
  • Seismic Bracing Layouts: Assist in creating seismic layouts based on building codes and troubleshooting layout issues with guidance.
  • Material Takeoff and Quoting: Complete kit builder counts, prepare quotes for seismic kit materials, and identify ISAT hardware components.
  • Technical Support: Support engineers in refining technical support procedures and systems.
  • Load Calculations: Learn to calculate point loads for vertical and seismic loads, and determine spacing requirements.
  • Program Proficiency: Utilize software such as AutoCAD, ISAT Kit Builder, Microsoft Office, and Nexus for project tasks.
  • Field Support: Conduct basic job walks on construction sites under supervision to inspect and troubleshoot project issues.
  • Code Knowledge: Acquire a basic understanding of relevant codes (ASCE-7, IBC, CBC) and their application to ISAT engineering scopes.
  • Daily Documentation and Organization: Ensure accurate time sheet entry in Nexus and maintain an organized workspace.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLs:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or 5+ years of experience in non-structural components seismic design.
  • 1-3 years of experience assisting project managers, ideally with mentoring by a senior PM.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, business journals, and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear and effective interaction with colleagues, clients, and management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365, and other relevant software tools.
