Job description

Application Instructions
Build your experience. Learn the industry. See construction from the ground up.
Mathiowetz Construction Company is looking for a motivated college student to join our team as a Project Operations Specialist Intern.
This internship is designed for students interested in construction management, civil engineering, construction engineering, or a related field who want hands-on experience in heavy highway construction. You won't spend your summer sitting behind a desk-you'll work alongside our project and field teams, learn how large construction projects come together, and gain exposure to both the operational and management sides of the industry.
As a Project Operations Intern, you'll work closely with Project Supervisors, Project Managers, crews, and other members of our operations team while developing the skills needed for a future career in construction.
About Mathiowetz Construction
Mathiowetz Construction Company is one of Minnesota's premier earthwork and general contractors. Our team takes pride in solving problems, tackling complex projects, and doing the work it takes to keep projects moving.
We are looking for students who want more than an internship on their rΓ©sumΓ©-we want individuals who are interested in learning the business, contributing to the team, and seeing what a career in construction can offer.
Come spend your internship where the work actually happens. Build your skills, build your network, and help us build a better future.
Mathiowetz Construction Company is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
Position Description
What You'll Experience
Throughout the internship, you'll have the opportunity to learn and assist with:
    • Day-to-day field operations on active construction projects
    • Daily and weekly project and crew planning
    • Project plans, specifications, and construction documents
    • Tracking project quantities and materials
    • Crew productivity and basic project cost tracking
    • Safety meetings, documentation, and jobsite safety practices
    • Traffic control and erosion control inspections
    • Subcontractor coordination and project scheduling
    • Timecard review and project documentation
    • Utility protection procedures
    • Site surveying and topographic data collection
    • GPS and machine control technology
    • Equipment coordination and maintenance communication
    • Construction meetings and communication with inspectors
    • Pipe crews and other field operations as project needs allow
    • Track and derive project quantities through GPS topo shots
    • GPS and machine control technology with both Trimble and Topcon Platforms
    • You'll also have opportunities to spend time in the field learning how our crews, equipment, technology, and project teams work together to safely and efficiently complete complex construction projects.

What You'll Gain
This internship is about more than completing a summer of work. Our goal is to give you a well-rounded understanding of how construction projects operate and help you identify where your strengths and interests may fit within the industry.
You'll gain:
    • Hands-on experience on active heavy highway construction projects
    • Exposure to both field leadership and project management
    • Experience with construction technology and project documentation
    • Mentorship from experienced construction professionals
    • An understanding of how safety, production, people, equipment, cost, and scheduling all come together on a project
    • Real-world experience you can take back to the classroom
    • The opportunity to explore a future career with Mathiowetz Construction

This job description is not intended to represent a complete, comprehensive list of all duties and responsibilities that may be required in this position. There may be unplanned activities and other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
Who We're Looking For

Ideal candidates are:
