Project Engineer
Job Overview
The Project Engineer position is an entry into the leadership roles at Rock Spring Contracting. A person in this role will assist the Project Manager in organizing and executing daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. The Project Engineer is essential to the Project Manager being able to complete a job within the budget and at a high level of satisfaction for Rock Spring's customers.
Position Summary
The Project Engineer supports the planning and execution of commercial construction projects by coordinating drawings, submittals, RFIs, and project documentation, and by being on-site (in the field) to coordinate and facilitate execution of the job. This role works closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality standards are met. Responsibilities include tracking materials, assisting with cost control, and maintaining accurate project records. The Project Engineer helps resolve field issues, reviews shop drawings, and ensures compliance with contract requirements and safety standards. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional seeking hands-on experience and growth in commercial construction project management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Effectively communicate with GC Project Superintendents and Management.
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents by being on-site at construction jobs to ensure seamless and effective communication between the Project Manager and on-site team.
  • Assist Project Manager with building and delivering submittal packages to include product data, shop drawings, and physical samples to GC
    • Work closely with suppliers to gather product data
    • Create submittal and transmittal cover sheets
    • Prepare weekly submittal status log
    • Prepare LEED forms as the project requires
  • Assist Project Manager with ordering material
    • Update master purchase orders with requests from field staff
    • Communicate with suppliers and manufacturers on lead time issues
    • Prepare weekly material status log
  • Assist Project Manager with weekly subcontractor billing
    • Cross-check subcontractor pay applications with Verfico daily logs for accuracy
    • Review subcontractor contracts for accurate billing
  • Assist Project Manager with approving material invoices
    • Cross-check material invoices and quotes for accurate pricing
  • Assist Project Manager in writing and submitting RFIs
    • Collect information from field staff to be used in RFI process
  • Ensure field staff has access to current drawings printed and/or on Plangrid
  • Assist Project Manager with monthly invoicing
    • Provide GC with monthly schedule of values and change order logs
    • Submit AIA invoices to accounting for executing
    • Send completed invoices to GC Project Managers and accounts payable
  • Assist Project Manager with collecting outstanding receivables
    • Prepare weekly aging reports for customers
  • Assist Project Manager with special job requirements
    • Submittal of weekly Certified Payroll for Wage Scale jobs - ability to learn wage submittal software programs
    • Enrollment in Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs (CCIP / ROCIP)
    • Assist/Guide subcontractors with the same requirements
  • Prepare project close-out documents to include O&M manuals and warranties as requested
  • Assist Project Manager by completing paperwork as requested
    • Site access forms

Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Primarily indoor office environment with frequent visits to project sites; occasional lifting; frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, keyboarding, and operating office equipment.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to consistently be at the office or on site in-person 5 days a week from 8am-4pm
