Position Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for delivering large scale telecommunication projects. Project Managers must set project strategies in alignment with company goals. They manage projects through implementation including engineering, production, installation and testing by leading and working with a matrix-style project team across all functions and levels of the organization.

The position requires problem resolution both internally and with the customer, and risk identification and mitigation. Must be able to deal with ambiguity and react to execution of both new plans and changes that minimize company risk.

Serve as the main point of contact with the customer for all negotiations, decision making, scheduling issues, and problem solving throughout the program; monitoring and reporting performance against plans to ensure that contractual, cost and schedule objectives are met; and arranging modifications as required.

Duties include managing budgets and schedules; serve as point of contact for cross-functional program teams with members from engineering, procurement, sales, production, finance, marine, and quality, issuing customer commercial notices. Ensure all team members are aware of project strategy, objectives, risks and mitigations.

Essential Job Functions
  • Serve as the Project Manager for projects specific to Undersea Telecommunications Industry; working with internal teams, (Project Management, Quality, Reliability, Finance, Operations, and Marine Services).
  • The scope of the Project Manager s activities is to support one or more projects (simultaneously), from pre-award through RFPA
  • Work with applicable project teams to own/support the following project activities:
  • Manage P/L of project including increasing margin and revenue
  • Develop project strategy to increase revenue/margin
  • Develop risk analysis and project strategy to mitigate and reduce risks to Company
  • Negotiate project changes
  • Manage contract including terms and conditions, technical requirements, scope, schedule, and budget. Manage the customer relationship, project notices and project changes
  • Establish and meet project objectives by analyzing contract deliverables and collaborating with project team members
  • Achieve financial objectives on the project and review/understand variances
  • Informing leadership team of key project issues
  • Promote a culture that reflects Company s values, encourages outstanding performance and promotes positive work environment, as well as strengthening regional team spirit within and across other functions. Reward productivity as part of an ongoing process to establish Company as an employer of choice.

 Skills/Abilities
  • Experience in negotiations, managing the P/L of projects, strategy development/implementation, risk management, and contract management a must
  • Experience in managing large cross functional projects or leading a team on undersea or construction projects. Experience matrix-managing a team is useful.
  • Understanding of contract language
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems within own position, across organizations, and with customers
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required
  • International and domestic travel to support customer meetings as needed
  • BA/BS degree in an Engineering, Business, or technical discipline; and up to 5 years related work experience
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting contractual and organizational commitments
  • Excellent communication, verbal, presentation and written skills
  • Ability to work well in matrix-style teams with persons from different organizations, job types and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to complete assignments with little supervisory oversite
