Help Wanted...

Budderfly is a fast-growth, private equity-backed energy management outsourcing company that is committed to reducing global carbon emissions for small to medium sized enterprises.  We are the premier sustainability partner for businesses with repeatable footprints such as restaurant chains, assisted living facilities, retail franchises, and more. Budderfly installs, monitors, and manages a combination of patented technologies, equipment upgrades, and proprietary energy software to help deliver complete energy saving solutions for our customers.

We are an energetic and dedicated team working together to make a positive impact on the environment while providing an excellent customer experience.   We are growing quickly and looking to add talented people who are passionate about making the world a better place!

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Project Manager to join our Battery Storage deployment team.

In this role, you will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of behind-the-meter battery storage projects, including site readiness, equipment delivery and staging, installation, utility interconnection, permitting, and commissioning. You will work closely with subcontractors, electrical contractors, and utility partners to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

This position demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proven experience managing electrical field installations. The Project Manager may also support additional energy-saving efforts, such as solar, EV charging, or lighting and HVAC conservation projects, contributing to broader sustainability and resource management goals.

Why this Role is Important:
This role is essential for deploying battery energy storage that reduces peak demand charges, improves site resiliency,  and enables participation in utility demand response and grid services programs. By overseeing safe, code-compliant BESS installations and commissioning, the Project Manager directly contributes to both environmental impact and operational savings.

 Key Responsibilities:

Oversee contractor-led installations and commissioning of battery energy storage systems and associated electrical infrastructure, ensuring all work meets company standards for quality and safety, stays on schedule, and is delivered within budget across complex, multisite projects nationwide.

  • Work closely with contractors to forecast and schedule battery storage installations, ensuring timely execution and alignment with project timelines, equipment lead times, and resource availability.
  • Manage permitting, utility interconnection applications, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) inspections, tracking approvals and resolving jurisdictional requirements that impact project schedules.
  • Coordinate site readiness activities, including electrical service evaluation, load and metering data review, structural and clearance requirements, and equipment placement.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, fostering effective communication, collaboration, and accountability throughout project execution.
  • Monitor contractor performance by evaluating adherence to project schedules, budget constraints, safety requirements, and quality expectations, and provide feedback and guidance as necessary.
  • Oversee commissioning, startup, and acceptance testing, verifying that system controls, communications, and performance meet design intent prior to project closeout.
  • Enforce electrical safety and code compliance requirements, including NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, and NFPA 855, ensuring contractors follow approved lockout/tagout and energized work practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, incentives, procurement, fulfillment, and install support, to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and obstacles that may impact project timelines or quality, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Proactively communicate project status, updates, and potential delays to internal stakeholders and customers, maintaining strong relationships and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborate with Fulfillment and Procurement to manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) for each battery storage project, ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of batteries, inverters, switchgear, and balance-of-system materials to contractors.
  • Coordinate with Fulfillment/Procurement to resolve any issues related to material availability, quality, or delivery, ensuring timely resolutions to maintain project momentum.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and asset records, tracking serialized equipment and all project-related materials, ensuring proper documentation of usage, storage, and replenishment to prevent shortages and avoid project delays.
  • Ensure that all project documentation is accurate, complete, and up to date, including project plans, progress reports, change orders, commissioning records, warranty registrations, and closeout documentation.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years in project management, preferably in battery energy storage, solar, or electrical construction.
  • 1-2 years in energy/construction management ideally working with utility or city municipalities.
  • Experience managing subcontractors overseeing electrical, energy storage, or construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of battery energy storage systems, inverters, switchgear, metering, and utility interconnection processes.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including the NEC, NFPA 855, and UL 9540, and with local permitting and inspection processes, preferred.
  • Facilities management/building engineer experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
