Project Manager Semiconductor information

What does a project manager in the semiconductor industry do?

A Project Manager in the semiconductor industry oversees the planning, execution, and completion of projects related to the design, manufacturing, or improvement of semiconductor products. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage budgets and timelines, and ensure that project goals align with business objectives. Their responsibilities also include identifying risks, resolving issues, and communicating progress to stakeholders. Successful project managers in this field need strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology and market demands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager in the semiconductor industry?

To thrive as a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry, you need strong project management expertise, a background in engineering or related technical fields, and experience with semiconductor processes. Familiarity with project management tools (such as MS Project or Jira), semiconductor design software, and certifications like PMP or Six Sigma are highly valued. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help coordinate cross-functional teams and navigate complex technical challenges. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope, driving innovation and efficiency in a highly competitive industry.

How does a project manager in the semiconductor industry typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project's lifecycle?

As a Project Manager in the semiconductor industry, you will regularly coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure project milestones are met. This role requires frequent cross-departmental meetings to align on technical requirements, resolve bottlenecks, and manage timelines. Effective communication and the ability to translate complex technical details into actionable tasks are essential, as you’ll act as the bridge between technical teams and executive stakeholders. Collaboration tools and structured processes, such as Agile or Stage-Gate methodologies, are often used to maintain project visibility and momentum.

Job description

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Industrial HVAC & Environmental Control

Location: Glendale, KY
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Compensation: Up to $120,000/year

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in industrial HVAC systems, thermal management, and environmental control. This role will serve as a technical subject matter expert for critical HVAC assets supporting advanced manufacturing environments, including dry rooms and clean rooms.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with desiccant dehumidification, air handling systems, low-dew-point environments, HVAC optimization, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system performance analysis. This position will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and external contractors to ensure reliable and energy-efficient environmental control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the engineering SME for industrial HVAC and environmental-control systems, including Desiccant Dehumidification Units (DHU), Recirculating Air Handlers (RAH), and Air Handling Units (AHU).
  • Optimize HVAC systems for reliability, energy efficiency, humidity control, temperature stability, and overall process performance.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving airflow, pressure cascading, humidity fluctuations, thermal loads, and environmental stability.
  • Perform thermodynamic and psychrometric calculations to evaluate heating/cooling loads, moisture removal capacity, system performance, and future capacity requirements.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental control.
  • Support HVAC retrofits, capacity expansions, equipment upgrades, and system improvement projects from design review through installation and commissioning.
  • Coordinate and manage third-party contractors and HVAC vendors during engineering, installation, testing, balancing, and commissioning activities.
  • Analyze HVAC and environmental performance data and collaborate with Quality and Process Engineering teams to monitor Cpk/Ppk and process capability.
  • Develop predictive and preventive maintenance strategies to improve HVAC reliability and prevent environmental drift.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, preventative maintenance procedures, checklists, and critical spare-parts strategies.
  • Support critical HVAC components and utilities, including desiccant systems, chilled water, steam, compressed air, valves, filtration systems, and related controls.
  • Partner with cross-functional and global engineering/operations teams to resolve technical issues and implement sustainable improvements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of industrial HVAC engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial HVAC systems, thermodynamics, and psychrometrics.
  • Experience with desiccant dehumidification and low-dew-point/low-humidity environments.
  • Experience with large-scale AHU/RAH systems, airflow configuration, VFDs, filtration systems, and PID controls.
  • Familiarity with industrial utility systems such as chilled water, steam, and compressed air.
  • Experience with BMS, SCADA, or industrial HVAC control systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting HVAC systems and performing RCA, DOE, and performance optimization.
  • Experience supporting HVAC projects, contractors, commissioning, testing, and balancing (TAB).
  • Proficiency with engineering and data-analysis tools such as AutoCAD/Revit, Excel, Minitab, or comparable software.
  • Strong communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in EV battery/lithium-ion battery manufacturing.
  • Experience in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, clean-room, dry-room, or other highly controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Experience operating or optimizing environments requiring ultra-low humidity or very low dew points.
  • Knowledge of HEPA/ULPA filtration and pressure cascade systems.
  • Experience with HVAC load calculation and simulation software.
  • Experience monitoring and improving environmental Cpk/Ppk performance.
  • Experience managing HVAC contractors and vendors in large-scale manufacturing or construction environments.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Regular, predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Ability to move throughout office, manufacturing, and construction environments, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing approximately 25–50 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting as required, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in office, industrial, manufacturing, and construction environments.
  • Willingness to travel to other company or project sites as business needs require.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions in accordance with applicable law.
Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to play a key engineering role in a high-tech advanced manufacturing environment, taking ownership of critical HVAC and environmental-control systems while contributing to operational reliability, energy efficiency, and future manufacturing growth.
