ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Engineer in Training (EIT) primary role is to support the New Works Manager in implementing capital projects.  This developmental position includes participation in the Amrize Engineer Development Program, with periodic placements across operational departments at the Exshaw plant to build broad technical capability. The EIT will contribute to high quality project delivery through project planning, field execution, inspections, and effective coordination with stakeholders.  This role enhances project efficiency, ensures compliance with engineering, safety, and regulatory standards, and strengthens long term technical capacity by developing a future professional engineer capable of independently managing engineering tasks.


WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Assist documentation management through drawing updates and electronic filing of department records.
  • Development and management of assigned projects to Amrize practices.
  • Management of contractor resources in accordance to Amrize Contractor Safety Management policies.
  • Undertake Amrize specific safety training and related industrial training as required or highlighted through Individual Development Plan.
  • Assist plant personnel to develop ideas and plans to improve short term operations or long-term efficiency of the plant.
  • Work as a placement in other departments to become familiar with the work and challenges of departments.
  • Undertake to become familiar with Cement manufacturing process.
  • Support plant operations through temporary supervision or project management during turnaround or other required times.  Participate in plant safety committee.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's Degree. 
Field of Study Preferred: Engineering.  Preference for Mechanical Engineering degree.
Required Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment (Co op or internship experience counts toward this requirement).
Required Training/Certifications: Registered EIT.
Required Technical Skills: MS Project, SAP, AutoCad.
Travel Requirements: 10%

Additional Requirements: 

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of mechanical, electrical and civil engineering.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of project management.
  • Must be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Must be a good communicator.
  • Flexible with working hours; strong teamwork skills.
  • Must work with initiative and employ good analytical skills.
  • Participate in the Amrize Engineer development program and achieve a passing grade in associated work & assignments.
  • Undertake Amrize specific safety training.
  • Undertake assignment based, department specific, experience for Production & Process, Maintenance and Quality.
  • Undertake other job-related training and achieve passing grade where appropriate.
  • Undertake training and field work to support Professional Engineer accreditation.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
