ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager of Projects, the Project Manager / Project Engineer will be responsible for managing and supporting the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering projects within the oil and gas industry. This individual will work closely with Project Managers, discipline leads, designers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure that technical excellence, cost, schedule, quality, and contractual requirements are achieved.

This role is intended for an intermediate-level professional with strong project management capability, broad engineering coordination experience, and the ability to work independently on small to medium-sized projects. The successful candidate will provide both project management and project engineering support, including oversight of project execution, coordination of engineering deliverables, client communication, proposal support, and front-end project development. 

 

EXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related Engineering discipline is an asset.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience in the Canadian oil and gas industry; approximately 10 years of experience is considered ideal.
  • Previous EPCM experience is a must.
  • 3+ years of multi-disciplinary project management and/or project engineering experience.
  • Registration with APEGA is a must.
  • Registration as a PE in the US is an asset.
  • PMP Certification is an asset.
  • Experience managing small to medium-sized engineering projects with varying scope and complexity.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including process, mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Experience with drafting proposals, quotes, bids, work scopes, and project execution plans.
  • Strong understanding of effective and efficient project management procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite programs used to create reports, documents, schedules, and project correspondence.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Follows Kleinfelder policies and procedures.
  • Effectively uses Kleinfelder workflows and processes to secure project resources, complete proposals, develop contracts, maintain project records, monitor projects, bill clients, collect fees, and perform close outs and lessons learned.
  • Support the continued improvement of project management and project services processes, standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Lead project management and project engineering efforts to execute assigned small to medium-sized projects varying in scope and complexity.
  • Support other Project Managers with project execution, engineering coordination, client communication, and follow-up where additional PM/PE support is required.
  • Plan project resources to ensure efficient and cost-effective execution while adhering to budget and schedule constraints.
  • Partner with discipline leads and other stakeholders as required to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Accountable for implementation of Kleinfelder project management and project services processes on assigned projects.
  • Lead client communication with respect to assigned projects and support client communication on projects managed by others, as required.
  • Provide coordination and guidance to members of the engineering team, including designers/draftspersons, engineers, and technicians.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering activities and support the resolution of technical, scope, schedule, and budget-related issues.
  • Champion and develop specific deliverables such as work scopes, project design criteria, design basis documents, technical documents, cost estimates, schedules, and other project-related documents.
  • Review engineering drawings, engineering work packages, technical documents, and project deliverables for coordination, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Assist the client with front-end project development, as required, to define project scope for team execution.
  • Report engineering and project progress against planned project budget and schedule.
  • Provide continuous review of quality of project work.
  • Identify project risks, scope changes, budget pressures, and schedule concerns in a timely manner and support appropriate mitigation or change management actions.
  • Ensure close out of projects and completion of project KPIs.
  • Chair internal project meetings and client meetings, as required.
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required. 

 

Business Development 

  • Realize and seize opportunities for proposals/additional work; collaborate with the business development team to grow the business.
  • Partner with stakeholders in proposal writing, marketing presentations, and organization of internal resources for assigned prospects.
  • Support the business development of Kleinfelder Canada and communicate possible opportunities.
  • Assist in the development of / enhancements to Kleinfelder Canada's business development strategy; research and assist in determination of qualified target areas, projects, and clients as required.
  • Support operational sales team, Client Account Managers, and Project Managers as required.
  • Coordinate with business development / operations group on proposals and presentations.
  • Presentations and visits to client locations may be required.
