What is a project manager pipeline?

Project Manager Pipeline roles refer to professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating projects related to pipeline construction, maintenance, or operations in industries such as oil, gas, or water. They manage project timelines, budgets, resources, and stakeholder communications to ensure successful project delivery. These project managers must also ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards throughout the project lifecycle. Their work often involves collaborating with engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities to achieve project goals.

How does a project manager pipeline typically collaborate with engineering and operations teams during a project lifecycle?

A Project Manager Pipeline works closely with both engineering and operations teams to ensure that pipeline projects are executed efficiently and meet all safety and regulatory requirements. They facilitate regular meetings to align project milestones, resolve technical issues, and balance resource allocation. Effective communication is essential, as the Project Manager must translate project goals into actionable tasks while addressing concerns from various stakeholders. This role also often involves coordinating site visits, reviewing progress reports, and adapting plans as challenges arise to keep the project on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager pipeline, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager Pipeline, you need expertise in project management methodologies, pipeline construction processes, and a relevant engineering or technical degree. Familiarity with project management software (such as MS Project or Primavera), pipeline design tools, and certifications like PMP are typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate diverse teams and manage project challenges. These skills are crucial for ensuring pipeline projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while meeting all regulatory and technical standards.

Job description

Field AI is at the forefront of robotic embodied AI, transforming industries like construction, security, mining, and manufacturing. Our autonomous robots operate globally, often in harsh environments, delivering critical insights to customers. Whether monitoring construction progress, ensuring safety compliance, or conducting predictive maintenance, Field AI is advancing technology to make a meaningful impact.

About the Role

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager to lead the planning and execution of our 3D mapping projects while remaining hands-on with the underlying technology. This is a hybrid engineering and project management role where you'll contribute directly to the development of our mapping systems while driving projects from concept through production deployment.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in robotics software, computer vision, or 3D mapping and enjoys coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions. You'll work closely with engineering, product, operations, and customer-facing teams to ensure projects are well planned, clearly communicated, and successfully delivered.

We're seeking someone with 4+ years of experience in robotics software development and technical project management who thrives in fast-paced startup environments and enjoys balancing technical problem-solving with project execution.

What You'll Get To DoSoftware Development & Mapping
  • Design, develop, and maintain production-grade software for 3D mapping solutions.
  • Deploy large-scale mapping systems and data processing pipelines into production.
  • Validate mapping systems and algorithms using real robots and sensors in complex, unstructured environments.
  • Build and improve internal tooling, automation, and benchmarking infrastructure to increase reliability and repeatability.
Technical Project Management
  • Own mapping projects from planning through delivery, coordinating execution across software, hardware, systems, data, and operations.
  • Translate technical and customer requirements into project plans, milestones, and delivery timelines.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration across engineering, product, operations, and customer-facing teams.
  • Track project progress using Jira, Confluence, or similar tools while managing scope, schedules, and dependencies.
  • Identify risks early, communicate project status clearly, and drive issues to resolution.
  • Develop documentation, processes, and playbooks that improve execution and scalability across future projects.
What You Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 4+ years of experience in robotics software development and technical project management.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Experience with 3D geometry, point cloud processing, and libraries such as PCL or Open3D.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, Wrike, or similar project management tools.
  • Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical projects in fast-paced, evolving environments.
The Extras That Set You Apart
  • Experience with LiDAR sensors, Linux/Ubuntu, and robotics software development best practices.
  • Background in mobile robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, or embedded systems.
  • Experience with data capture, mapping, or system integration in production environments.
  • Experience supporting field operations or customer deployments.
  • PMP, Scrum Master, or Agile certification.
  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment with a strong sense of ownership.

The actual offer for this position will be based on factors such as relevant experience, competencies, certifications, and how well the candidate meets the qualifications outlined above. Part of our compensation package also includes full benefits, equity, and generous time off.
