Job description

Project Manager – Heavy Civil Site Development

Do you thrive managing large-scale earthwork and underground utility projects from start to finish?
Are you experienced in site development, mass grading, and wet utilities—and confident leading field teams and subcontractors to successful execution?

C.A. Murren is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Project Manager to lead earthwork, site development, and underground wet utility projects (water, sewer, and storm drainage) throughout the Southeast region. This is a high-impact role responsible for financial performance, execution strategy, client communication, and team leadership on complex civil infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute project plans specific to heavy civil site development and underground utility work
  • Analyze and fully understand civil drawings, grading plans, utility profiles, and contract specifications
  • Manage mass earthwork quantities, production tracking, and cost control
  • Develop and maintain detailed CPM project schedules and update progress regularly
  • Perform project setup including contract review, cost coding, and budget establishment
  • Lead subcontractor and supplier buyout specific to civil scopes and utilities
  • Track quantities, equipment utilization, productivity, and cost performance
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, pay applications, change orders, and subcontractor billing
  • Maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers, and inspectors
  • Lead and develop Project Engineers and field teams
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures
  • Proactively identify risk and implement solutions to maintain project performance
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience managing heavy civil construction projects
  • Direct experience with:
    • Mass grading and earthwork operations
    • Site development projects
    • Underground wet utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage)
  • Strong understanding of civil drawings, specifications, and utility coordination
  • Experience managing self-perform civil teams preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project financials and job cost tracking
  • Proficiency in scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Participation in pre-employment and random drug screening program
  • Subject to background screening
