Environmental Services Supervisor

Location: The Chesapeake, a LifeSpire of Virginia Community – Newport News, VA

Position Summary

The Chesapeake, a premier Lifespire of Virginia community located in Newport News, Virginia, is seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Services Supervisor to lead our housekeeping and laundry team. This is a working supervisor position responsible for directing and participating in the daily operations of housekeeping, floor care, and laundry services.

The Environmental Services Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents, team members, and visitors. This position provides day-to-day leadership, training, quality assurance, and support to the Environmental Services team while ensuring compliance with departmental standards, infection prevention protocols, and safety regulations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead and actively participate in daily housekeeping, floor care, and laundry operations.
  • Assign work, coordinate daily schedules, and help ensure adequate staffing and productivity.
  • Assist with reviewing and approving PTO requests and timecards as appropriate.
  • Train, coach, and mentor team members on cleaning procedures, infection prevention, resident interactions, and workplace safety.
  • Provide timely coaching and corrective guidance regarding performance, safety, and conduct.
  • Conduct routine inspections and quality audits to ensure cleanliness and departmental standards are consistently achieved.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and materials, and communicate replenishment needs.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation related to departmental operations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control practices, hazardous waste procedures, OSHA standards, and all community safety policies.
  • Coordinate and participate in special cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Assist with room setups and breakdowns for community events and activities.
  • Support trash removal, sanitation, and other environmental services duties as needed.
  • Promote exceptional customer service while fostering a positive and respectful work environment.
Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including:

  • Evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed
  • Early morning hours
  • Inclement weather and emergency situations to help support community operations
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of housekeeping or environmental services experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including scheduling, timekeeping, inventory tracking, and documentation.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to quality service.
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Valid driver's license may be required; ability to operate a vehicle or golf cart if necessary.
